JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University is seeking a talented, ambitious, and hard-working Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the field of advanced manufacturing in theSHAPE Lab group.

Job Duties:
  • Develop digital manufacturing technology through education, research and development efforts

  • Document efforts in 3D sand-printing, additive manufacturing, AR/VR, and characterization workflow

  • Generate computational codes (Python, Unity, C, C++) to integrate design with the advanced manufacturing digital workflow

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, or related fields and significant priorresearch experience in manufacturing processes

  • Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire

  • Strong prior experience in advanced manufacturing methods - in particular additive manufacturing, binder jetting, metallurgy, metal casting, mechanical testing and machining methods - is required, experience with manufacturing education outreach and technical communication is a major asset

    Additional Information:

    We also look for good oral and written communication skill; ability to work both independently and in a team environment; proficiency with Python, C, C++, Unity, Fortan or other relevant coding methods.

    This is a term position funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of re-funding.

This position will be located at Penn State in University Park.
