Job Overview

Hubbell's Switching and Fusing business unit in Leeds, AL is looking for a Sourcing Engineer. Our Sourcing Engineers play a crucial role in the supply chain management process, focusing on identifying, evaluating, and selecting suppliers and materials needed for manufacturing or production. They ensure that the components or raw materials meet the company's quality, cost, and delivery requirements while fostering strong relationships with suppliers.

A Day In The Life

  • Supplier Identification and Evaluation:

    • Research and identify potential suppliers globally and locally based on technical requirementsand company needs.
    • Evaluate suppliers' capabilities, capacities, and financial stability to ensure they can meet thecompany's quality and delivery standards.
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to verify compliance with industry standards and companypolicies.


  • Supplier Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships.
    • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers to secure the best possibleterms for the company.
    • Manage supplier performance through regular reviews and assessments, addressing any issuesrelated to quality, delivery, or service.


  • Cost Management:

    • Work closely with the procurement team to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintainingquality standards.
    • Analyze cost structures and market trends to achieve competitive pricing from suppliers.
    • Implement value engineering and cost reduction initiatives without compromising product qualityor performance.


  • Technical Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to understand technical specifications andensure that suppliers can meet these requirements.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to improve their processes and productofferings.
    • Participate in design reviews and provide input on material selection and sourcing strategies.


  • Risk Management:

    • Identify potential risks in the supply chain, such as single-source dependencies, and developstrategies to mitigate these risks.
    • Ensure a diversified and resilient supplier base to avoid supply disruptions.


  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that all sourced materials and components comply with industry standards, regulatoryrequirements, and company policies.
    • Work with the quality assurance team to resolve any issues related to supplier quality ornon-conformance.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of supplier certifications, audits, and performance
    • metrics.


  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain, focusing on efficiency, costreduction, and quality enhancement.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in sourcing andprocurement.
    • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to implement new sourcing strategies and projects.



What will help you thrive in this role?

  • BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or technical field
  • 3+ years of experience in a materials role involving sourcing activities for a manufacturing
  • operation
  • Strong ERP systems experience
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and drawings
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
  • Familiarity with Quality systems, processes, and requirements
  • Demonstrated negotiation experience
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills


Preferred:



  • SAP
  • Understanding of or experience working with interpersonal logistics
  • Understanding of commodity markets
  • PMP or other project management certification
  • MBA or Master's degree is a plus
