Overview

Provides oversight of the Natural Resources Practice Area. Responsible for all aspects of the technical quality and management of the Natural Resources Practice Area contracts under their oversight. Provides technical leadership, training, and mentorship of employees within the Natural Resources Practice Area. Works with the Technical Practice Area Director to define technical expectations, standards, and goals. Provides effective leadership to direct reports to ensure that assignments are properly performed, and deadlines are met. Develops and expands client relationships to achieve annual revenue goals. Works under minimum supervision, exercising initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks.

Essential Job Functions



  • Respond to requests for proposals from clients and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Perform project management duties such as forecasting, tracking project costs and schedules, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Establish project teams and coordinate with the client regarding the ongoing status of a project.
  • Oversee the completion of Federal Nationwide Permits (NWPs) and Standard Individual Permits (IPs) as regulated under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA)
  • Oversee the completion of Aquatic Resource Delineations
  • Ensures project profitability through appropriate project budgeting/pricing and appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Provide technical review of reports to ensure that reports are completed per applicable regulations/guidelines and client specifications.
  • Assist the Technical Director and the Regional Vice President to develop, support, and participate in individualized training programs for new hires and other technical staff in employee's respective discipline.
  • Contribute to the growth of the practice area through business development.
  • Perform annual employee performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Assist with conducting interviews and assessment of job candidates.
  • Support company marketing efforts through continuing education presentations and sales calls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Certifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, related environmental/engineering field, or equivalent experience.


Required Skills and Abilities



  • A minimum of three years of related experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience performing Aquatic Resource Delineations.
  • Thorough knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, both internally and externally.
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
  • Independently problem-solve and work autonomously with a sense of urgency.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (Microsoft Office and Adobe).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint preferred.


Physical Demands, Overtime, Language and Writing Skills, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The position requires the ability to speak, write, and communicate clearly. Employees may lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Overtime - This position is salaried with exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.

Language and Writing Skills - Must have the ability to read, analyze, and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Able to respond written or verbally to job-specific and general inquiries from management, peers, subordinates, clients, and external vendors. Must be able to produce and disseminate correspondence (i.e. emails, letters, etc.) as requested.

Travel Requirements - 20% or more.
