Description

The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services is seeking applications for Building Maintenance Trades Specialists. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Trades Specialist Lead, these positions will perform various tasks in general construction and building maintenance type work. By keeping our buildings and facilities operating at peak efficiency, the Building Maintenance Trades Specialist is vital to improving the on-campus experience of our Students, Faculty, and Staff members.

What you'll do:



  • Perform maintenance duties as related to carpentry, such as but not limited to, fabrication and repair of various casework and furniture; installation and repair of various floors and ceilings; installation and repair of various window coverings, doors, trim, locksets, and windows; installation of window AC units and ventilation fans.
  • Install and repair drywall, insulation, trims and moldings.
  • Fabricate, install, and maintain walls, concrete forms, ramps, scaffolding, all permanent or temporary shelters, wooden steps, work platforms, handrails, wheelchair ramps, barricades, ladders, shipping crates, pallets, etc.
  • Perform electrical maintenance duties, including replacing light switches, ballasts, outlets, sockets and lamping.
  • Complete plumbing tasks, such as but not limited to, repair and maintenance of faucets, opening plugged drains, replacing worn or damaged traps, tightening loose packing, repairing flush valves, replacing worn or damaged commode seats, etc.
  • Work with mechanical equipment systems, performing tasks such as installing parts in mechanical apparatus, repairing condensing and chilled water pumps, and repairing air handling and cooling tower equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance duties as related to HVAC, such as but not limited to, calibration and adjustment of temperature controls, changing of V-belts, and minor repairs to AC and HV units.
  • Erect various working platforms to include, but not limited to, metal and aluminum pipe scaffolding, pick boards and work stages, ladder jacks, extension ladders, step ladders, etc.
  • Request parts, supplies, etc. from Warehouse and Tool Crib ensuring timely delivery and sequencing to include operating a state vehicle.


Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Work Location: Varies based on needs.

Pay Grade: 13 (Starting at $16.01 an hour) WVU provides competitive wages for its employees and takes related experience and education into consideration when determining appropriate salary.

Qualifications

Education:

Must have high school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Must have one of the following:





    • 2 years experience in general trades building maintenance experience in the areas of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades.
    • Completion of an associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade.
    • Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to follow OSHA guidelines and associated codes.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, parts, and materials related to the building maintenance trades.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain average or above work standards.
  • Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to distinguish colors in the workplace.
  • Ability to rapidly learn all policies and procedures impacting the affected area.
  • Ability to operate a state vehicle.
  • Ability to climb ladders, heights may exceed ten feet.
  • Ability to lift materials over 75 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, crawl, etc.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in confined areas.
  • Ability to hear and interpret sounds and verbal instructions in the work area.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools such as saws, drills, and jackhammers.
  • Ability to erect and work from scaffold, ladders, and man lifts at heights exceeding ten feet.

Requirements

  • Valid US driver's license required.
  • Physical demands include:

    • Bending, stooping, crawling and climbing
    • Lifting materials over 50 pounds
    • Carrying equipment
    • Utilizing various PPE
