The Role:

As the Director of Special Events, you will be the visionary behind our comprehensive special events program. From signature fundraising events to recognition and cultivation gatherings, your strategic mindset and leadership skills will be pivotal to our success. What You'll Do:



  • Strategic Event Architect: Shape the future of our signature fundraising events with a comprehensive strategy that includes long-term and annual goals. Collaborate with foundation leadership, boards, and event committees to set objectives that align with our mission.
  • Event Execution Leader: Organize and implement our annual signature fundraising events with precision. Provide staff leadership and ensure seamless event execution, creating impactful experiences that resonate with our supporters.
  • Fundraising Collaborator: Partner with foundation directors and fundraising teams to develop, present, and steward proposals for event sponsorship and support. Cultivate relationships with business and community sources to drive revenue growth.
  • Communications Overseer: Coordinate event promotion, printed materials, and advertising in collaboration with the PHS marketing and communication teams. Ensure our message is clear, compelling, and reaches the right audience.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Event Coordination: Lead the organization and execution of special events in collaboration with major gift officers, shared services caregivers, event team members, and volunteers.
  • Sponsorship Cultivation: Secure corporate and individual sponsors, driving revenue growth and enhancing event success.
  • Volunteer Recruitment: Recruit and supervise special event chairs and volunteers, ensuring a dedicated and motivated team.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop strategic plans, scripts, and materials to support the vision and objectives of each event.
  • Event Innovation: Continuously research and present new ideas to refresh existing events or create new ones, ensuring our offerings remain exciting and relevant.
  • Productivity Standards: Maintain productivity standards set by organization guidelines, ensuring efficient and effective event management.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain an accurate donor database in cooperation with the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and shared services caregivers.
  • Document special event activities and prepare revenue and expense reports as requested.
  • Manage and implement a special events calendar with associated event timelines.
  • Develop event scenarios and briefings for leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Supervision:
  • Participate in the orientation, education, and development of team members.
  • Accept personal responsibility for educational activities that enhance job-related skills and abilities.
  • Performance Improvement:
  • Engage in the Performance Improvement Program to continuously enhance event quality and efficiency.
  • Budget Management:
  • Keep special event expenditures within the Ministries Foundation annual budget, adhering to our core value of financial prudence.


Qualifications:



  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Driving Requirements: Caregivers must comply with all state laws and requirements for driving, providing proof of a valid driver's license and auto insurance upon request.
  • Experience: 8 years of demonstrated fundraising success and a proven history in driving event revenue growth and strategy. 5 years of leadership experience in organizational fundraising and strategic planning.
  • Skills: Strong communication and organizational skills, ability to multitask in a busy environment, and familiarity with donor management systems.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of community resources, corporations, and philanthropic organizations. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and email.
  • Licensure: Must be a California licensed driver with an automobile that is in good working order and insured in accordance with state and/or LCMHS/TrinityCare Hospice requirements.
  • Health Requirements: Contract employees must meet LCMHS/TrinityCare Hospice employee health requirements.
