Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Director-Financial Planning & Analysis (FP & A) reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serves as Tideworks Technology's senior FP&A leader, with full accountability for enterprise planning, forecasting, management reporting, business performance analysis, and decision support in a private-equity-backed software and technology business. This is an individual contributor role at launch, requiring the Director to personally build and execute the core FP&A processes while influencing leaders across the organization.
The role owns the annual budget, rolling forecasts, long-range planning, department and project performance reporting, recurring-revenue and professional-services analytics, cash-flow forecasting, and financial models supporting strategic and operating decisions. The position partners closely with Accounting, Sales, Professional Services, Product, Engineering, HR, IT, Legal, and Procurement while maintaining clear accountability boundaries: the Corporate Controller owns GAAP actuals, accounting policies, close, and external financial reporting; FP&A owns budgets, forecasts, operating analytics, and forward-looking planning.
Enterprise Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, long-range plan, and scenario analyses across revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, headcount, capital expenditures, working capital, and cash flow.
- Develop a driver-based planning model that connects bookings, backlog, ARR, subscription and license revenue, maintenance/support, hosting, professional-services delivery, staffing, compensation, and discretionary spend.
- Establish planning calendars, assumptions, templates, review standards, and clear ownership by function; challenge inputs and reconcile operating plans to company objectives and available resources.
- Produce base, upside, downside, and liquidity scenarios and clearly identify the operational assumptions, risks, opportunities, sensitivities, and management actions within each case.
- Partner with the CFO and leadership team to translate strategic priorities into measurable financial targets, resource-allocation decisions, and accountable operating plans.
Management Reporting, Performance Analytics & PE Reporting:
- Own monthly and quarterly management reporting, including actual-versus-budget and actual-versus-forecast analysis, EBITDA and cash-flow bridges, KPI scorecards, and concise explanations of business performance.
- Prepare recurring reporting and analyses for the CFO, executive leadership, Board, private-equity owner, and lenders, including operating trends, covenant forecast support, liquidity, and value-creation initiatives.
- Develop performance views by product, customer, geography, department, project, and revenue stream where data quality supports reliable analysis.
- Maintain a clear forecast-to-actual feedback loop, identify forecast bias or recurring variances, and improve forecast accuracy and accountability over time.
- Partner with the Corporate Controller to ensure management reporting reconciles to GAAP actuals and that non-GAAP measures, KPI definitions, and adjustments are consistently documented.
Revenue, ARR, Professional Services & Commercial Finance:
- Own forward-looking revenue models for subscription/ARR, term and perpetual licenses where applicable, maintenance/support, hosting, implementation, time-and-materials, fixed-fee professional services, and other material revenue streams.
- Build and maintain bookings, backlog, ARR, renewal, churn, expansion, pipeline-conversion, deferred-revenue, and unbilled-revenue analytics in partnership with Sales, Professional Services, and Accounting.
- Partner with Sales and business leaders on pricing, discounting, deal economics, customer profitability, contract term, payment structure, and resource requirements while ensuring Accounting retains authority over GAAP revenue conclusions.
- Develop professional-services planning and reporting for utilization, billable capacity, realization, project margins, contractor-versus-FTE mix, delivery backlog, staffing needs, and revenue conversion.
- Establish ARR-to-GAAP revenue bridges and explain the timing, mix, and cash-flow implications of bookings and contract structures.
Cost, Headcount, Investment & Business Partnership:
- Lead headcount and compensation planning with HR and department leaders, including hiring timing, vacancies, contractors, merit, bonus, benefits, payroll taxes, and location assumptions.
- Provide finance partnership to Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Professional Services, HR, IT, Legal, and Procurement through structured operating reviews, decision support, and investment analysis.
- Evaluate business cases, vendor commitments, technology investments, make-versus-buy decisions, pricing initiatives, and other expenditures using consistent financial and strategic criteria.
- Develop contribution-margin, customer-profitability, product-economics, and return-on-investment analyses to support resource allocation and prioritization.
- Monitor approved and unbudgeted expenditures against the delegated-authority framework and escalate material forecast, liquidity, or return risks promptly.
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Strategic Finance:
- Own the integrated cash-flow forecast and partner with Accounting on reliable inputs for collections, vendor payments, payroll, taxes, debt service, capital spending, and working-capital movements.
- Analyze AR, deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, billing schedules, collections, AP timing, and other working-capital drivers; identify actions to improve cash conversion and forecast reliability.
- Support debt and covenant forecasting, lender reporting analysis, financing scenarios, acquisitions, integrations, separation/TSA activities, and potential exit diligence as required.
- Provide financial modeling and analytical support for strategic initiatives, market expansion, product investments, partnerships, and M&A opportunities.
Systems, Data & Process Transformation:
- Serve as the FP&A business owner for planning, reporting, and analytics requirements during the migration from IFS to NetSuite, including chart-of-accounts and dimensional design, management-reporting hierarchies, data validation, UAT, and post-go-live stabilization.
- Design an integrated planning and reporting architecture across NetSuite, CRM, project/PSA, payroll/HRIS, billing, and business-intelligence tools; establish controlled data definitions and reconciliations.
- Develop scalable dashboards and standardized reporting in Power BI or comparable tools, with drill-down capability and documented KPI definitions.
- Reduce manual spreadsheet dependency through governed models, repeatable data flows, version control, and clear review procedures while preserving transparent assumptions and auditability.
- Document FP&A processes, model logic, calendars, data ownership, KPIs, and reporting standards.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Operating Cadence:
- Operate as a hands-on individual contributor and establish a scalable FP&A operating model, including planning standards, review controls, workload prioritization, documentation, and processes that can support future growth.
- Establish regular budget-owner and leadership review cadences that focus on decisions, corrective actions, risks, opportunities, and ownership rather than reporting alone.
- Communicate complex financial issues in clear, decision-oriented language for financial and nonfinancial audiences.
- Promote constructive challenge, accountability, data integrity, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the planning process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Master's degree in business management, Finance, Math, Statistics or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in Finance with at least 6+ years in managing teams of individual contributors and their work products.
- Industry experience preferred (terminal operations, logistics or transportation).
- Thorough GAAP and IFRS knowledge.
- Strong skillset with MS Office, PowerBI, data management and large financial ERPs.
- Demonstrate advance project management and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the experience to effectively communicate. key data in a user-friendly and concise manner to individuals with varying levels of financial acumen.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments and resources in large, complex business environments.
- An exceptional communicator who can write, present, and effectively adjust messages to meet individual audiences and organizations.
- A strong focus on execution and accountability in a fast-paced environment.
