About the Opportunity:
We are currently partnering with a globally recognized leader in transportation technology to recruit an experienced Engineering Manager for its growing engineering organization in Saint-Bruno, Quebec.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established international organization supporting major transportation infrastructure and railway development programs, with significant long-term projects and opportunities for career advancement.
The organization is looking for a strong engineering leader who brings a combination of people management, multidisciplinary systems engineering knowledge, and strategic resource planning.
Unlike a traditional technical engineering management position, this role is primarily focused on leading and developing people rather than performing hands-on engineering design.
You will oversee an established team of approximately 10-12 experienced engineers, supporting five active development projects alongside more than 15 existing programs.
Approximately 70-80% of the position is dedicated to people leadership, including employee development, coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and ensuring engineering teams have the resources and direction needed to succeed.
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced Engineering Manager, Systems Engineering Manager, or multidisciplinary engineering leader who enjoys building high-performing teams and contributing to complex engineering programs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10-12 engineering professionals.
  • Oversee performance management, employee development plans, career progression, and team engagement.
  • Manage engineering workload, resource allocation, workforce capacity, and departmental priorities across multiple programs.
  • Support the successful execution of new development projects and ongoing engineering programs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering resources with project objectives.
  • Identify and remove operational roadblocks that may affect engineering productivity, schedules, or deliverables.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and long-term workforce development.
  • Promote continuous improvement, engineering excellence, and effective collaboration across technical disciplines.
  • Ensure engineering activities are aligned with organizational objectives, timelines, quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to experienced engineers while encouraging technical ownership and independent problem-solving.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct people management experience, including responsibility for engineering employees, performance management, and professional development.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within a complex technical environment.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, systems integration, verification, and validation.
  • Experience managing engineering resources, departmental workloads, schedules, and competing project priorities.
  • Ability to lead experienced technical professionals while maintaining a strong focus on coaching, mentorship, and employee development.
  • Strong communication, decision-making, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Professional fluency in both French and English is required.
  • Ability to work onsite in Saint-Bruno three days per week.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous leadership experience in rail transportation, aerospace, automotive, defence, or another highly regulated engineering industry.
  • Experience with complex products integrating mechanical, electrical, software, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with formal systems engineering methodologies and requirements management tools.
  • Experience supporting multiple engineering programs simultaneously.
  • OIQ membership or eligibility would be considered an asset.
Railway industry experience is not mandatory. Candidates with strong engineering leadership experience from aerospace, automotive, defence, and other complex systems engineering environments are encouraged to apply.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Join a globally established organization supporting major transportation projects.
