DESCRIPTION

Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with comprehensive clinical programs, extensive basic science and clinical research, and diverse educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. The internationally renowned faculty play a major role in medical and graduate student training, providing educational and programmatic offerings that span several disciplines, and provide diversity to meet the interests of a broad spectrum of students and scholars. More than one hundred trainees at the graduate student and postdoctoral level, as well as more than 300 professional, research and administrative staff who along with the department administrators interact closely with the faculty. Under supervision, the Education Programs Coordinator will provide coordination for the Medical Education Programs within the Department of Pediatrics.

MEDICAL STUDENT CLERKSHIPS: Independent responsibility for the day-to day operations of the Pediatrics 401 Clerkship and Pediatrics 427 Subinternship.

Responsibilities include maintaining student schedules and enrollments in systems such as MedHub, coordinating clinical site assignments, and ensuring timely posting and communication of clerkship materials, requirements, and schedules. The incumbent monitors student completion of clerkship requirements and supports evaluation and grading processes, including facilitating mid-clerkship feedback and rotation evaluations. The role also assists with coordinating assessments, including NBME shelf examinations, by supporting exam logistics, proctoring, and adherence to established testing procedures.

The incumbent communicates regularly with students, faculty, residents, and site coordinators to provide guidance on established policies, procedures, and timelines. Incumbent will make operational decisions with a large degree of independence, collaborating with the Clerkship Directors, Department Leadership, and the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Office.

RESIDENCY PROGRAM:Manage for the operations of educational projects within the Pediatric Residency Program. Provide general support to the residency program as needed. Incumbent will make operational decisions with a large degree of independence, collaborating with the Pediatric Residency Program leadership team and Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office.

The incumbent applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. May assist with special projects and events within the Department, provide back-up support as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry.

  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program.

  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner. Must have excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners.

  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars/schedules requires extremely well organized and detail oriented precision.

  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues.

  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems.

  • Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance user experience.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $68,382 - $99,598 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.75 - $47.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
