Currently recruiting a Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology Clinic to provide specialized outpatient nursing services at the Gastroenterology Clinic within the Department of Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. This position supports patients undergoing gastroenterology evaluation, treatment, and procedural care in a military treatment facility serving active duty service members, military families, retirees, and other eligible beneficiaries. The clinic operates Monday through Friday with 8-hour shifts scheduled between 6: 00 a.M. And 6: 00 p.M. This opportunity is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical or Gastroenterology Registered Nurses seeking a federal healthcare nursing position in a specialty outpatient clinic.
DUTIES OF THE REGISTERED NURSE - GASTROENTEROLOGY CLINIC:
- Perform the full range of Registered Nurse duties within the scope of clinical privileges granted by Brooke Army Medical Center.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical, family, and social histories, current health status, and treatment needs.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and document individualized patient care plans.
- Provide direct patient care, including medication administration, intravenous therapies, treatments, and patient monitoring.
- Monitor patients before and after gastroenterology procedures and assess recovery status.
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment, including intravenous infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG equipment, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic-specific equipment.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and communicate changes in patient condition to the healthcare team.
- Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education regarding procedures, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Perform diagnostic procedures and other nursing interventions within the RN scope of practice.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations by initiating appropriate life-saving interventions.
- Supervise and appropriately delegate nursing care activities to Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed personnel.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies, patient safety standards, and military treatment facility procedures.
- Participate in mandatory training, continuing education, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adapt to changing patient care needs while maintaining high standards of safe, evidence-based nursing care.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE REGISTERED NURSE - GASTROENTEROLOGY CLINIC:
Required
- Associate Degree in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license from any U.S. State, territory, District of Columbia, or U.S. Jurisdiction.
- Minimum of two years of full-time Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse experience within the last four years, post-graduation.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Demonstrated skill in operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment, including intravenous infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG equipment, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic-specific equipment.
- Telemetry experience and successful completion of the BAMC Cardiac Telemetry Test annually.
- Meet all continuing medical education requirements applicable to the position.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
- Must successfully complete government credentialing requirements.
- Must maintain an active Tier 1 background investigation before beginning services and throughout the contract.
- Must meet all occupational health requirements, including physical examination, tuberculosis screening, required immunizations, and annual influenza vaccination before in-processing.
- Must complete all government-required orientation and mandatory training.
Preferred
- Experience in gastroenterology.
- Experience in inpatient critical care.
- Minimum of one year of experience in post-anesthesia patient recovery.
