The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a research-focused Emergency Medicine Physician-Scientist for an open rank faculty position. This position is designed for an individual who will engage in clinical practice while maintaining a primary professional focus on establishing and sustaining an independently funded, high-impact research program supported by NIH or equivalent extramural funding. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong scholarly productivity, the potential for sustained external research funding, excellence in clinical emergency medicine, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. This role includes clinical care responsibilities, with significant emphasis on advancing the Department's and institution's research missions through innovative, collaborative, and funded research efforts relevant to Emergency Medicine. Key Responsibilities: Research Responsibilities * Establish and sustain an independently funded research program with NIH or equivalent extramural funding. * Develop, submit, and serve as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on competitive federal and foundation grant applications. * Conduct impactful research relevant to Emergency Medicine, including clinical research, health services research, translational or basic science research, or implementation science. * Actively engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research across CU Anschutz and affiliated institutions. * Disseminate scholarly work through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings. * Participate in mentorship of learners and junior faculty in research and scholarly activity. Clinical Responsibilities * Provide high-quality emergency medical care to adult and pediatric patients. * Serve as an attending physician in the emergency department at approved clinical sites, including University of Colorado Hospital and affiliated emergency departments. * Complete required CME per departmental and credentialing guidelines. Teaching Responsibilities * Provide bedside teaching and supervision for residents, fellows, and medical students. * Participate in didactic education activities within the Department of Emergency Medicine. * Contribute to research education and mentorship of residents, fellows, and students when appropriate. Service and Administrative Responsibilities * Participate in departmental, hospital, school, or university committees as appropriate. * Contribute to initiatives focused on patient safety, quality improvement, and patient experience. |
