Job Summary

The position serves as the advisor for students participating in education abroad programs their assigned region. The advisor guides students through every stage of the study abroad process, including program selection, academic planning, application review, pre-departure preparation, risk management, and ongoing support while abroad. Additionally, this position manages Drexel's inbound J-1 exchange population. These students require specialized advising and coordination to ensure compliance with federal immigration regulations, successful enrollment, orientation, academic support, and integration into the Drexel community. The advisor works closely with multiple campus partners to facilitate student arrivals, troubleshoot issues related to academics, housing, billing, and campus resources, and ensure an excellent student experience throughout their exchange.

Essential Functions



  • Advise students throughout the education abroad lifecycle, from program exploration through return to campus.
  • Manage education abroad partnerships and student placements throughout Asia and other regions.
  • Review applications and supporting documentation while monitoring student progress toward program requirements.
  • Coordinate pre-departure advising, orientation, health and safety preparation, and emergency response.
  • Serve as the primary advisor for inbound J-1 exchange students from nomination through program completion.
  • Coordinate inbound exchange arrival logistics, orientation programming, registration support, and ongoing student services.
  • Collaborate with International Students and Scholars Services, Housing, the Registrar, academic colleges, and partner institutions to ensure successful inbound student experiences.
  • Managing curriculum integration efforts in assigned academic area.
  • Maintain accurate records within Terra Dotta and other university systems.
  • Respond to complex student situations requiring timely intervention and collaboration across university offices.
  • Represent Drexel Global through information sessions, outreach activities, and partner communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in international education, preferably education abroad
  • Must be a self-starter and flexible
  • Ability to communicate persuasively, attention to detail, and ability to handle several tasks at once are essential for this job
  • Ability to set goals and complete projects with a high degree of independence


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree
  • Experience living, working, and/or studying abroad, preferably in a French or Spanish speaking location
  • Ability to speak multiple languages
  • Knowledge of educational systems of other countries
  • Experience with Banner, the MSOffice suite, and Terra Dotta Software

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 45,330.00 to $ 68,000.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
