Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IV for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. This position exists to provide an exciting opportunity to join Dr. Glytsou's laboratory as a Laboratory Researcher IV. In this role, the successful candidate will participate in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology research, as well as animal studies to investigate the role of mitochondria in cancer and drug resistance. The incumbent is responsible for performing experiments under Dr. Glytsou's direct supervision as well as maintaining the necessary daily laboratory activities, reagents, and supplies.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Designs and executes daily laboratory experiments in coordination with the principal investigator and other laboratory members, including mammalian cell culture, protein extraction and electrophoresis, cell proliferation assays, flow cytometry, Western Blot, RNA and DNA isolation.
  • Performs bacterial culture, molecular cloning and uses genetic manipulation technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9.
  • Completes the experiments within the designated time schedule.
  • Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments.
  • Orders, receives, safely stores, and maintains laboratory supplies and biological samples. Maintains and renews inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates the repair and preventative maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Keeps accurate records of medical waste, stores carcinogenic chemicals in a safe place, and models good laboratory safety procedures in the laboratory at all times.
  • Assists in training students and new laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Maintains laboratory in clean and tidy condition.
  • Maintains mouse colonies: breeding of mice, weaning pups, genotyping using PCR assays.
  • Sets the appropriate mating based on the needs of the lab.
  • Maintains a xenograft bank.
  • Performs animal studies, including procedures and tissue harvest for subsequent assays.
  • Keeps the records of all animals.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or Biochemistry or a related field, as well as the willingness to work with small animals.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sound understanding of applications of the theoretical discipline and a greater depth of knowledge of the discipline, usually through on-the-job training.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of reporting tools.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience in metabolism, cancer biology or mitochondrial biology.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques (cell line propagation, cell line engineering, drug treatment studies) and flow cytometry is an advantage.
  • Prior experience working with mouse models.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint. Experience in FlowJo and processing and analyzing large datasets.
  • Ability to work with little direct oversight.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
