Performs surgical hand scrub, sterile gowning and gloving.

1. Complies with policy and procedure regarding OR attire.
2. Performs surgical hand scrub according to procedure and observes principles of aseptic technique.
3. Gowns self and dons sterile gloves using closed gloving technique.
4. Assists other team members to don sterile gowns and gloves.

Creates and maintains sterile field.

1. Uses principles of aseptic technique in all situations.
2. Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening them.
3. Maintains sterility while opening sterile items.
4. Recognizes and initiates corrective actions when breaks in aseptic technique occur.
5. Controls own movement within the sterile field and functions within the designated area.

Performs in role of specialty service (Ortho, Neuro, Pediatric, OHNS, Plastic Reconstructive, cardiothoracic, Vascular, GU, GYN and oncological specialties) technologist under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor.

1. Reviews the specialty service schedule with the Clinical Supervisor to assess equipment and surgical assistant staffing needs.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of specialty related anatomy and physiology.
3. Demonstrates the ability to safely utilize and troubleshoot service instrumentation and equipment.
4. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and prioritizes daily workload while apprising the Clinical Supervisor or Charge nurse of his/her availability.
5. Collaborates with Biomedical technicians regarding repair maintenance of equipment.
6. Assists the Clinical Supervisor and CNIII with service-related activities such as checking carts, ordering supplies, etc.
7. Collaborates with other members of the specialty service team regarding patient care decisions and operational issues.
8. Communicates patient information in a timely fashion and maintains confidentiality.

Actively participate in quality of care endeavors and the National Patient Safety Goals.

1. Fully participates in the surgical time out including procedure/patient/side/site verification; ensuring availability of pertinent equipment, instruments and implants before surgery.
2. Fully participates in all quality improvement activities, including but not limited to, flash sterilization logs, indicator and sterilization verification, etc.

1. Precepts new staff, students, trainees in the scrub role.
2. Provides feedback regarding preceptee progress.
