Summary/Objective

The primary role of the Lab Technician is to maintain the E-Coat system tanks, pre-treat and paint process tanks. Keep chemical composition of each tank with a range called out in the specs. He/She maintains all records of chemical levels, adds, temp and PH range required in each tank. The Lab Technician can expect to spend the majority of their time on the plant floor doing work that requires standing or walking. Moderate exposure to chemicals, noise, and non-weather humid conditions can be expected. The Lab Technician reports to the Coatings Production Supervisor. Job duties include but are not limited to the responsibilities listed below

Essential Functions

  • Calibrate PH meters.
  • Calculate the weights of solids in both paint tanks.
  • Run waste treatment system keeping all chemicals on line with the system.
  • Maintain and record chemical levels and PH levels in the Powder Coat line.
  • Change the filters on the E-Coat line.
  • Change out and clean pretreatment tanks.
  • Add chemicals to pretreatment tanks and paint tanks as well as needed resins, paste and or paint to paint tanks.
  • Order products to all tanks and powder coat line from our suppliers.
  • Keep tank levels at a good operating level in both pre-treat and paint line tanks.
  • Maintain proper chemical levels and water levels at the pickle line.
  • Power wash and clean plates from the pretreatment line.
  • Flush and clean nozzles in the pre-treat line.
  • Good house keeping.
  • Manage storage of all chemicals in proper location.
  • Take and record inventory levels of all products.
  • Drive a fork Lift taking out sludge, trash and moving chemical.
  • Handle a drum pump and a drum hand truck.
  • Move 55 gallon drums of chemical to proper location.
  • Cut up both plastic and metal barrels.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, lift, and move continually during working hours. Is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. This position can involve sitting for various periods of time, and also requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday and some weekends.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  3. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  4. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  5. Computer skills in the following applications: Microsoft Excel.
  6. Ability to read, compose, and send email.
  7. Ability to use internet search tools.
  8. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  9. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  10. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  11. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Manual mill machining
  2. Electrical/Hydraulic experience
  3. Mechanical Engineering experience
  4. Computer skills
    1. SolidWorks experience is a plus
    2. LabVIEW experience is a plus - specifically running data acquisition program

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Ability to use all applicable machinery and equipment
  2. High school diploma or the equivalent is required
  3. At least two (2) years of manufacturing and metal fabrication experience preferred
  4. Ability to be trained on the job
  5. Ability to work together with a team
