Information Technology (IT) acts as an internal function the developing, running, and maintaining of the IT systems and platforms Nokia is running on. Develops and maintains applications to meet the business needs of the organisation. Covers the performance and monitoring of day-to-day database and system activities as well as the provision of remote support to users regarding hardware and software problems.

Subfamily Description

IT Advancement & Design (ITA) comprises further development of information technologies and IT platforms for business solutions and services. Covers driving of proactive needs analysis ensuring that business needs, demands and challenges are well understood, and that business execution plans and capabilities are delivered on time and within budget. Contains management of demands and priorities while assuring alignment with the corporate strategy and budget. Comprises optimisation, harmonisation, and implementation of Nokia's IT environment and systems by providing area specific knowledge. Covers representation of the whole IT organisation to global or regional business stakeholders and user communities. Works closely with the different service providers that are part of the IT eco-system, governs their performance, and acts as main interface between IT and the business including incident escalations. Comprises identification of opportunities for process and concept development as well as improvements. Covers planning and managing of the development, testing, and implementation of process / concept improvements and system changes at own responsibility area. Contains translation of requirements into system terminology and functionality as well as the delivery of process and system end-user training.

IT Manufacturing Support Engineer Level 1

Manufacturing Floor

  • Production Troubleshooting: Hands-on technical support to production lines, resolving issues with Test Stations, Automation, or Processes.
  • Process Improvement: Utilizing data analysis to identify root causes of manufacturing issues and improving efficiency through automation or redesign.
  • Quality & Safety: Integrating quality checks into the manufacturing process to meet standards, participating in Failure Analysis (FA), and improving safety on the floor
  • Documentation & Training: Developing Best Known Methods (BKMs), Technical Product Manuals, and training packages for operators and technicians.
  • Understand and Support the Manufacturing Compute Environment - Test Stations, Network Switches & Firewall Layout, Servers & Servers' Connections

Core Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance: Installing, configuring, and updating operating systems (Windows, Linux) and hardware.
  • User Management: Managing permissions and accounts via Active Directory or cloud identity providers (like Okta or Azure AD).
  • Data Protection: Implementing and testing robust backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Security: Patching vulnerabilities, managing firewalls, and monitoring systems for suspicious activity.
  • Cloud/Virtual Administration: Managing virtual environments in VMWare and Azure.
  • Automation: Writing scripts (PowerShell, Bash) to automate repetitive tasks like software deployment.
  • Work as onsite contact with Database, Network, and process control teams.

Communication: Explaining complex technical issues to non-technical staff or stakeholders.

Must Have

  • Windows = Knowledge of Active Directory (AD), Group Policy Objects (GPOs), PowerShell, and core Windows services (DHCP, DNS), Files Shares/SMB, Event Logs Research
  • Linux = command line (CLI), user management, permissions, and package managers (yum, dnf, apt). Red Hat (RHEL) and Ubuntu Server are industry standards.
  • Virtualization: Creating and managing virtual machines (VMs) using platforms like VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Networking = A solid grasp of the TCP/IP stack, routing, switching, subnets, firewalls, DNS, SSL/TLS, Certificates, VPN, WhiteList/BlackList
  • System Monitoring: Using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Datadog, or Prometheus to spot performance bottlenecks or hardware failures before users notice.
  • Backup Strategy: Implementing and testing regular backups (following the 3-2-1 backup rule), DR, RPO, RTO

Nice to Have

  • Cloud Computing: Administering cloud infrastructure, primarily in AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Scripting Languages: Proficiency in PowerShell (for Windows) or Bash (for Linux). Learning Python is highly recommended for cross-platform automation.
