Job Summary

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing stationary mechanical and electrical equipment that supports facility operations. This includes boilers, generators, refrigeration systems, turbines, heating and cooling systems, ventilation equipment, control systems, and electrical distribution systems. The role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and within established operating parameters. The Stationary Engineer performs inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs while maintaining accurate documentation of completed work.

Job Responsibilities




  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and repair stationary mechanical and electrical equipment.



  • Maintain boilers, generators, refrigeration systems, turbines, and related facility equipment.



  • Monitor heating, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and control systems to ensure proper operation.



  • Inspect meters, gauges, controls, and equipment to identify operational issues.



  • Conduct troubleshooting and failure analysis to determine repair or replacement needs.



  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules and procedures.



  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and completed work.



  • Complete daily timekeeping records and submit required documentation accurately and on time.



  • Report material needs and equipment deficiencies to supervisors in a timely manner.



  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.



  • Work under the direction of designated supervisors and project managers.



  • Cooperate with inspections and quality assurance reviews of completed work.



  • Maintain assigned tools and equipment necessary to perform job duties.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience operating, maintaining, and repairing stationary mechanical and electrical equipment.



  • Valid, unrestricted New York State driver's license.



  • United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal).



  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control system issues.



  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, manuals, and equipment specifications.



  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and safety procedures.



  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.



  • Ability to safely use standard industry tools and equipment.



  • Commitment to complying with OSHA regulations and applicable state and local requirements.




Education




  • High school diploma or equivalent required.



  • Technical training in stationary engineering, HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or a related field preferred.




Work Experience




  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in stationary engineering, building operations, industrial maintenance, HVAC systems, power plant operations, or a related field.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.



  • Occasional overtime, weekend work, and holiday work may be required based on operational needs.



  • Must be able to report to assigned work locations on time and maintain reliable attendance.



  • Daily timekeeping records must be completed and submitted as required.



  • Parking may be available at designated work locations.



  • Smoking and drug use are prohibited while performing work duties.



  • All work is subject to inspection to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.



  • Personnel must take reasonable precautions to protect the safety of themselves and others while performing assigned duties.
