THE POSITION

As a Registry Technician with the Department of Health, you will play a key part in supporting statewide health information. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the statewide registries by reviewing, analyzing, and improving data submitted from many reporting sources. It helps ensure that registry information is complete, valid, and aligned with state and national standards. As a Registry Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Statute Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of applicable state laws and regulations governing registry data
  • Data Tracking: Maintain databases that track onboarding progress and identify needs for additional outreach or training
  • Training Support: Assist in developing training materials for electronic registry application modules
  • Case Review: Review and validate data submitted from reporting entities to ensure accurate information is added to the registry
  • Data Quality Analysis: Analyze data for consistency and validity using knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and program standards
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with authorized reporting entities to resolve discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. The typical schedule for this position will include 2 on-site days per week. You may also be required to work on-site as dictated by operational and training needs. This position will have 2 weeks minimum of mandatory on-site training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of complex clerical experience working in the collection and maintenance of vital events, cancer, or immunization registry data; or
  • Three years of experience as a Clerical Assistant 3 or Medical Records Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working with vital events, cancer, or immunization registries within the Pennsylvania Department of Health; or
  • One year of technical healthcare data management experience and an associate's degree in a health or healthcare related field; or
  • An associate's degree in a Health Information Technology (HIT) program; or
  • Eligibility for certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) as specified by the National Cancer Registrars Association, Council on Certification.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
