Job Summary
The Tooling Design Engineer will support the design, development, and implementation of industrial tooling, fixtures, gauges, drill and assembly jigs, machine attachments, and manufacturing support equipment for aerospace production and experimental programs. This role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure tooling solutions meet quality, schedule, cost, safety, and performance objectives. The ideal candidate has strong aerospace tooling design experience, advanced NX CAD or CATIA skills, and a solid understanding of GD&T, fabrication, machining, and manufacturing processes. This position requires a proactive professional who can work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and process innovation.

Job Responsibilities



  • Design industrial tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, machine attachments, and manufacturing support equipment for production and experimental use
  • Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing aerospace programs
  • Create and support engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
  • Collaborate with Tool Designers to finalize tooling and manufacturing drawings
  • Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, function, and fabrication feasibility
  • Manage tooling projects including scheduling, procurement, fabrication, and cost tracking
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, operations, engineering teams, and vendors to ensure tooling requirements are achieved
  • Support vendors during tooling fabrication and inspect completed tooling for drawing compliance
  • Ensure tooling and manufacturing processes meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Support root cause investigations, non-conformance reviews, and process improvement initiatives
  • Identify and mitigate tooling and manufacturing safety risks in compliance with company and regulatory standards
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production goals


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in tooling design, manufacturing engineering, or related engineering environments
  • Strong experience designing tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and manufacturing support equipment
  • Advanced experience with NX CAD or CATIA required
  • Strong understanding and application of GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5-2018)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, machining practices, and production environments
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings for dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance to drafting standards
  • Knowledge and application of weld symbols and engineering drawing interpretation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must be eligible to work onsite in El Segundo, California


Education



  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline preferred


Work Experience



  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments strongly preferred
  • Experience with tooling design, fabrication, and manufacturing support equipment preferred
  • Experience working with vendors and tooling fabrication processes preferred
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems preferred
  • Experience supporting tooling Statements of Work (SOW), tooling estimates, and project coordination preferred
  • Experience with stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) preferred
