The Job

Omnitrans,provider of public mass transit for the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our award-winning team. The ideal Candidate hired will be rresponsible for planning, developing and implementing Omnitrans community outreach activities to enhance the agency's awareness and image among the general public and key segments in order to increase ridership and support for agency services.

Examples of Duties

  • In partnership with the Manager, this position will develop and implement corporate partnership and distributor outlet programs, including researching and soliciting partners, outreach, presentations, partnering with Strategic Development staff to develop complementary service where needed, securing contracts and ongoing relationship management.

  • Develop a community outreach strategic plan.

  • Work and develop initiatives with partners internally and externally to help agency and ridership growth with activities, events, and promotions.

  • Develops, implements and manages community outreach program and communications including dissemination of promotional and educational information to employers, schools, senior centers, disabled community and civic organizations.

  • Oversee community programs that the Marketing and Communications Department is leading such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) business outreach and customer council.

  • Represents Omnitrans through appearances and presentations at community events and stakeholder venues to support outreach plan.

  • Develops outreach communications in partnership with specialists, including presentations, publications, videos and other promotional and educational materials.

  • Evaluates and recommends level of outreach participation at events; organizes agency participation in community and stakeholder events including logistics and staffing management.

  • In partnership with the Manager, join Chamber of Commerce meeting to present Omnitrans services and promotions.

  • Maintains contact lists for outreach efforts and prepares reports on agency outreach activities.

  • Other: Coordinates efforts with other Omnitrans staff. Provides input and support for Omnitrans Marketing department projects. Support niche marketing efforts through community partnerships (student, senior, etc.)

  • In absence of Marketing Director, performs essential functions.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Provides work direction to others but does not have direct performance appraisal responsibility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university; plus three or more years of related experience in community outreach, communications, or public relations; must have strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral; must have strong planning and organization skills. Position requires flexible schedule to accommodate participation in weekend or evening events. Travel within the service area is required. Bilingual (Spanish) is desirable.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be familiar with current business operating systems, software, and programs (i.e. MS Office), as well as graphic software applications (i.e. Adobe Suite).

The Selection Process

Candidates will be screened for relevant qualifying experience that consists of an evaluation of education and experience. The most competitively qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include a combination of written, performance, and oral examinations. All new hires are generally paid at the lower half to mid-point of the salary range. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test, and a criminal background investigation, which will include Live Scan fingerprinting.
