POSITION SUMMARY:
The Foreman reports to the Project Manager and is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily field operations for KEMRON project work in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. This position directs field crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and site activities to support safe, efficient, and compliant project execution in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, quality standards, and company procedures. The Foreman may also perform hands-on construction work as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
- Supervise, coordinate, and direct daily activities of field crews and subcontractors engaged in construction and related project work.
- Assign work based on project needs, production goals, staffing levels, and material requirements.
- Coordinate labor, subcontractors, equipment, materials, trucks, and other resources to support project execution.
- Communicate with estimators, superintendents, and project managers regarding production needs, scheduling impacts, job cost issues, and resource planning.
- Identify and communicate field issues, employee concerns, job costing issues, and project-related problems to the Superintendent or Project Manager in a timely manner.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, site-specific Health and Safety Plans, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Monitor crew productivity, workmanship, efficiency, and overall field performance.
- Review and verify employee time records and ensure hours are properly assigned and submitted in accordance with payroll deadlines.
- Communicate with maintenance personnel regarding equipment condition, repair needs, and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain professional communication with clients, customers, subcontractors, and members of the public.
- Assist with training and development of field personnel and provide input regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, and other personnel actions as needed.
- Follow established Foreman procedures, site protocols, and training requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant construction experience, including hands-on field experience and supervisory responsibility.
- Experience in construction, site work, heavy civil, roadwork, asphalt paving, environmental field work, or related project operations preferred.
- Experience with methods, techniques, equipment, and crew supervision in active construction or field environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, surveys, job specifications, and other project-related documents.
- Strong understanding of field production, work planning, and resource allocation.
- Strong communication, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to identify problems quickly and take appropriate corrective action.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, customers, subcontractors, and the public.
- Strong math skills and ability to calculate hours, quantities, material needs, and production-related information.
- Ability to understand and apply information from blueprints, layouts, surveys, and project specifications.
- Ability to establish grades and lay out project work using appropriate tools and methods is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and equipment familiarity are a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
- CDL with appropriate endorsements preferred.
- Must be able to comply with all company safety policies, project-specific requirements, and site procedures.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, or travel based on project demands.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors and may include regular exposure to heat, cold, rain, humidity, uneven terrain, moving mechanical parts, noise, dust, and vibration.
- Work is performed on active construction project sites and may involve physically demanding conditions.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in active field conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to see and recognize details at close range and safely navigate active construction sites.
