Maintenance Mechanic (Industrial)

Employment Type: FullTime (Hourly)
Work Schedule: Day shift during training; rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
Location: Central Florida (Onsite - Industrial Facility)


Position Overview

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join an industrial operations team supporting heavy equipment and plant infrastructure in a safetycritical environment. This role is handson and physically demanding, focused on troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on large industrial machinery and systems.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, commitment to safety, and the ability to pass written and handson mechanical assessments as part of the hiring process. Based on skill level demonstrated during testing, candidates may be classified at different mechanic levels.


Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repair

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial equipment in accordance with manufacturer and site standards
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and corrective repairs
  • Repair or replace components including:

    • Pumps, fans, turbines, and gearboxes
    • Conveyors and large rotating equipment
    • Piping, valves, and fabrication components
    • Draglines and dredges (where applicable)


  • Use a variety of tools including hand tools, torches, welding equipment, precision measuring tools, and pneumatic/electric tools


Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including:

    • PPE requirements
    • LockOut / TagOut (LOTO)
    • Confined Space and Hot Work procedures
    • PreJob Hazard Analysis and Workplace Exams


  • Participate actively in:

    • Prejob safety meetings
    • Weekly safety meetings
    • Required annual safety training


  • Ensure safe, compliant storage, inspection, and use of tools and equipment


Documentation & Systems

  • Enter work requests, findings, and feedback into the CMMS
  • Provide feedback on work execution, including challenges and successes
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities


Equipment Operation

  • Train on and operate mobile equipment such as:

    • Boom trucks
    • Aerial man lifts
    • Forklifts




Required Qualifications
Education & Training

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Associate degree or vocational training (Millwright, Pipefitter, Boilermaker, Machinist, Welding, or similar) preferred


Experience

  • 4+ years of industrial mechanical experience OR completion of an accredited apprenticeship program
  • Experience working in heavy industrial or mining environments preferred
  • Experience with mechanical systems, rotating equipment, and fabrication


Skills & Competencies

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair expertise
  • Ability to read and understand:

    • Blueprints
    • Schematics
    • Technical manuals


  • Basic computer skills and data entry proficiency
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime when required


Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Physically demanding, industrial work environment (often outdoors)
  • Exposure to varying temperatures (below 32F to above 85F)
  • Must be able to:

    • Lift 25-50 lbs. regularly
    • Climb stairs and work at heights
    • Work in confined spaces
    • Use fine hand motor skills
    • Wear respiratory protection
    • Work safely around moving equipment, chemicals, and transport vehicles


  • Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without posing a safety risk to self or others


Testing & Hiring Requirements

  • Successful completion of prehire written and handson mechanical testing
  • Classification level determined by test performance
  • Ongoing training participation required
