Position Summary
The IT & Cybersecurity Specialist I should be detail-oriented and motivated and will support our organization's IT operations and cybersecurity compliance efforts. This role will play a critical part in supporting Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 1 and Level 2 compliance within a government contractor environment, including safeguarding systems and data associated with Federal Contract Information (FCI) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).This position will also serve as a key resource for end-user IT helpdesk support, ensuring reliable day-to-day technology operations, and will report directly to the IT Manager. The ideal candidate is organized, technically curious, and interested in developing hands-on experience in both cybersecurity compliance and IT support.
Responsibilities
- Support CMMC Level 1 and Level 2 compliance efforts aligned with NIST SP 800-171 requirements
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of security controls to protect FCI and CUI
- Maintain and organize cybersecurity documentation, including policies, procedures, and system artifacts
- Support audit readiness by gathering, tracking, and maintaining evidence for assessments
- Assist with tracking and remediation of Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms)
- Help ensure compliance with access control, incident response, and system protection requirements
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, and application issues
- Assisting users with login, access, and connectivity problems
- Supporting Microsoft 365 and other business applications
- Performing user account setup, access provisioning, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) support
- Responding to and resolving support tickets in a timely and professional manner
- Serve as liaison with Avatara (third-party virtual desktop provider) and coordinate issue resolution
- Monitor security tools and assist with identifying and responding to potential security incidents
- Support patch management and vulnerability remediation activities
- Maintain logs, documentation, and audit records related to IT and cybersecurity activities
- Participate in user security awareness and phishing prevention efforts
- Evaluate risks and complete reviews of systems and software being used or requested
- Create training materials for employees
- Assist with and/or run various training courses for employees
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or currently within 3 months of degree completion
Experience
Required:
- Experience or familiarity with IT helpdesk or technical support
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and IT systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a part-time role
