Senior Tax Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented SrTax Accountant to provide professional support to our client's Tax Department and help ensure the goals and objectives of Financial Operations are met. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and experience in tax compliance, accounting, and reporting.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for all aspects of the tax compliance processes including the preparation of the workpapers, and preparing and timely filing returns, including but not limited to: a) sales and use taxes for Florida and Puerto Rico and b) income tax withholding related to Puerto Rico service providers c) other state and local filings as they arise.
2. Responsible for the accounting and monthly reconciliation of the tax liability accounts for sales and use tax and income tax withholding.
3. Prepares other returns and supporting workpapers as assigned by the Tax Manager such as those related to the Form 990, 990T, 1041s and 5500s.
4. Assists in the operation/maintenance of the tax filing software ProSystem's.
5. Stays abreast of tax law changes in Puerto Rico and Florida in regards to the tax filings noted in number 1 above and updates the Tax Manager, Tax Director, and affected Departments.
6. Recommends, creates, and updates policies and procedures as needed.
7. Assists in providing trainings and conducts meetings throughout the University as needed to disseminate information, improve processes, or improve reporting functionality.
8. Assists in the monthly and fiscal year-end process as needed, including but not limited to the preparation of work papers, reconciliations and account analysis.
9. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
10. Assists in special projects and assignments for Financial Operations.
11. On occasion, travels to other offices and/or off-campus locations for meetings and conferences.

Requirements:
1. Proficiency in Excel and Access, ability to work in Word.
2. Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
4. Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
5. Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize work in a fast paced corporate-like environment.
6. Strong workpaper skills.
7. Ability to analyze and apply annual changes in tax reporting to the university's tax compliance process including planning, gathering information, and documenting work paper support.
8. Bachelor's Degree: Four (4) years experience in an Accounting/Tax related position.
9. Masters Degree in Accounting and/or CPA.
10. Familiarity with fund and/or not-for-profit accounting principles.
11. Knowledgeable of Tax accounting rules and regulations for non-profits.
12. Familiarity with Banner Financial Systems.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
  • office location and other geographic considerations;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
