What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician to support the development and prototyping of lithium-ion cells, with a focus on pilot-scale winding, assembly, and formation processes. This role involves operating cell assembly equipment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to the production and testing of state-of-the-art prototype battery cells. The ideal candidate will bring familiarity with lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes and a strong commitment to quality and innovation as part of a dynamic product development team.
What You'll Do
- Lead the operation of cell assembly equipment to produce and test cutting-edge prototype battery cells
- Collaborate with engineers to conduct design of experiments (DOE) and implement new cell designs
- Perform regular equipment inspections before and after operation, working closely with the equipment team to optimize overall equipment efficiency
- Document critical build process parameters and quality control metrics, performing analysis as needed
- Conduct minor equipment repairs, rebuilds, and installations, coordinating with the equipment team for major repairs
- Provide feedback on existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and assist process and equipment engineering teams in developing new SOPs
- Diagnose cell build issues and equipment failures, identifying root causes and communicating required actions between equipment and process engineering teams
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong ownership mindset and dedication to achieving results
- Experience operating large-scale equipment
- Ability to analyze processing challenges and equipment fault conditions, identify root causes, and implement reliable long-term solutions
- Careful attention to detail and clear communication of results and challenges to the engineering team
- Direct experience with cell assembly lines is a plus
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) is a plus

Expected Compensation
$24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
