What to Expect
We are seeking a skilled Cell Materials Engineering Technician to join our cross-functional Cell Engineering Team at Tesla. This role focuses on supporting battery materials research and development (R&D) and various engineering projects through pouch cell testing and chemical analysis. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering and research teams to perform technical tasks, including electrolyte filling, electrochemical testing, and materials characterization, contributing to the advancement of Tesla's battery technology.

What You'll Do
  • Perform precise technical tasks in the lab, such as electrolyte mixing inside a glovebox and filling Li-ion pouch cells
  • Conduct electrochemical testing on Li-ion pouch cells to evaluate performance
  • Dissect Li-ion pouch cells for failure analysis and extract electrolyte for composition and impurity analysis
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of measurements and testing results
  • Document and update standard operating procedures for lab techniques and methodologies
  • Ensure clean and organized lab spaces while tracking inventory of consumables for timely restocking
  • Troubleshoot lab instruments and coordinate regular maintenance with team members and vendors

What You'll Bring
  • Strong communication skills and high level of organization
  • Experience working in a lab environment with hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for data management and reporting
  • Experience with cell cycling software, data analysis tools, or databasing is a plus
  • Familiarity with air-sensitive materials or battery materials is a plus
  • Experience operating gloveboxes is a plus
  • Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent experience

    Expected Compensation
    $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
