We are looking for a Senior Health & Wellness Benefits Manager who will lead the administration and continuous improvement of our health and wellness benefit programs while supporting the well-being of our team members across the organization.
This role oversees SSP's medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellness, and union benefit programs, ensuring accurate administration, regulatory compliance, and strong vendor partnership. The Senior Health & Wellness Benefits Manager works closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, Labor Relations, and external carriers to deliver reliable benefits operations and a strong team member experience.

What You'll Do:
Lead Health & Wellness Plan Administration
- Oversee daily administration of medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and wellness benefit programs.
- Manage enrollments, life events, eligibility files, billing processes, and issue resolution to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain operational controls, documentation, and standard procedures that support reliable plan administration.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen the team member benefits experience.
- Ensure union benefit plan administration aligns with collective bargaining agreements and reporting requirements.
Manage Vendors & Escalated Benefit Issues
- Serve as the primary operational contact for carriers, third-party administrators, wellness vendors, and COBRA partners.
- Monitor vendor service levels and data integrity across benefits programs.
- Resolve escalated issues in partnership with vendors while maintaining a strong team member focus.
- Partner with union benefit trusts to ensure accurate eligibility reporting and contribution coordination.
Support Team Members Through Benefits Education
- Provide clear guidance to team members on coverage options, plan features, costs, and enrollment processes.
- Partner with HR, Payroll, and operational leaders to resolve benefit-related questions and concerns.
- Develop communications, FAQs, enrollment materials, and benefits education campaigns.
- Educate union team members and leaders on benefit provisions and eligibility rules within their collective bargaining agreements.
- Promote team member health and wellness through accessible benefits resources.
Ensure Compliance & Strong Plan Governance
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain plan documents, SPDs, SBCs, policies, and required compliance notices.
- Support regulatory filings including ACA reporting and benefit-related audits.
- Ensure benefit administration practices align with union contract requirements and documentation standards.
- Stay current on regulatory updates and industry best practices to strengthen benefits governance.
Advance Wellness & Health Engagement
- Support development and promotion of wellness initiatives that improve team member well-being.
- Use data insights to evaluate program participation and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with internal teams to support a culture of health and engagement across the organization.
- Coordinate wellness programs with union benefit plans where applicable.
Support Audits & Maintain Data Accuracy
- Support audits related to health and wellness benefit plans including financial and operational reviews.
- Partner with Payroll, Finance, and vendors to resolve discrepancies and improve data accuracy.
- Ensure union benefit billing, eligibility files, and contributions align with contractual requirements.
- Document corrective actions and support ongoing operational improvements.
Lead Team Collaboration & Operational Excellence
- Provide coaching and daily guidance to team members supporting health and wellness benefit operations.
- Partner with HR, Finance, Payroll, and operational leaders to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Collaborate with Labor Relations to support union contract obligations related to benefits.
- Foster a collaborative, solutions-focused team environment aligned with SSP values.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience administering health and wellness benefit programs.
- Strong knowledge of ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and related regulations.
- Experience administering union benefit plans and interpreting collective bargaining agreement provisions.
- Experience working with benefit carriers, vendors, and eligibility systems.
- Professional certifications such as CEBS, CBP, or related credentials preferred.
- Experience supporting or leading small HR or benefits teams.
- Experience partnering with Labor Relations and supporting unionized workforces.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex workloads.
- Ability to travel up to 20% within the U.S. and Canada.
- Must be able to pass required background checks and maintain airport security clearances.
