OVERVIEW:

The Sr. CAD Technician is responsible for the preparation of drawings and details for structural and architectural disciplines relating to the design of new construction properties and repairs and modifications of existing properties.

The Salary Range for this position is $83,300 - $124,900 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Be familiar with specifications, sketches, drawing notes, and other design data in order to produce new drawings as well as make corrections and revisions to existing or preliminary drawings prepared by others.
  • Produce, prepare, organize, coordinate, and manage drawings and specifications using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and word processing applications (MS Word).
  • Develop and assemble drawing sets from concept to final issuance with plan views, elevations, and details to assist the design team with the construction design drawing package.
  • Understand and assist with developing company standards for AutoCAD drafting including layer names, line and character styles, drawings and window names, and file names for sheet layout.
  • Occasionally travel to field project locations to assist the design team with field sketches, taking dimensions, etc. and will require the ability to climb ladders, stairs and go inside damaged buildings to acquire the necessary field data to produce engineering drawings. The travel will be minimal.
  • Maintain consistent layering, naming, sheet setup, title blocks, and plotting/publishing standards
  • Perform self-checks and peer checks for accuracy, completeness, and constructability/manufacturability
  • Review and implement markups/redlines from engineers
  • Manage revision control and ensure changes are properly documented and clouded/recorded
  • Identify and resolve issues such as clashes, inconsistencies, missing information, or coordination conflicts
  • Coordinate with engineers/designers/architects, and sometimes suppliers, contractors, or fabricators
  • Clarify design intent and raise RFIs/technical queries when information is missing or conflicting
  • Participate in coordination meetings and communicate drawing/model status, risks, and dependencies


    REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:



    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
    • Reliable delivery under deadlines, ability to work well under pressure.
    • Work under close supervision of CAD manager and engineering team
    • Be responsive to inquiries

    • Ability to mentor and lead drafting standards


      REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:



      • High Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
      • 8+ years of experience in structural drafting/detailing production (buildings/infrastructure), with senior-level checking/coordination responsibilities
      • Producing structural drawing packages across stages (concept tender construction as-built)
      • QA/checking: redlines, revision control, drawing registers, issue packages
      • Coordination with Architectural + MEP (openings/penetrations, embeds, loads, clashes)
      • Previous experience required in structural detailing with wood, concrete, masonry, and/or steel.
      • Revit experience preferred, but not necessary.


      PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, and TRAVEL:

      Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crouch, hear, and talk (must be able to speak and communicate clearly with employees). Employee may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

      There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.

      Required travel is minimal and infrequent.
