This posting is to fill two (2) open vacancies Position #010053 and #010103

Winter hours: 1st Monday of November through last Friday of March

6:30 am - 3:00 pm; Monday - Friday. May be required to work events during weekends and evenings.

Summer hours: 1st Monday of April through last Friday of October

6:00 am - 2:30 pm; Monday - Friday. May be required to work events during weekends and evenings.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This Advanced Grounds Technician role within the General Services group at UNC Charlotte Facilities Management is designed as a multipurpose, floating position to provide flexible support across multiple specialized teams. These teams include the construction crew, moves crew, irrigation manager, turf spray technician, arborist, grounds mechanic, and soft washing crew. This position will be prioritized with assistance to the soft washing and moves crews, while also contributing to other areas as needed. This role requires advanced skills in grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and specialized tasks such as soft pressure washing for building exteriors, turf management, and logistical moves, ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of grounds keeping procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist all general services groups.
  • Moving furniture & event setups around campus.
  • Pressure washing & soft washing buildings, graffiti removal.
  • Daily tasks to include: equipment operation, mowing, string trimming, edging, blowing, seeding and fertilizing, watering, irrigation operation and repair, pruning, pesticide application, tree removal, operation of tractors, backhoe, and skid steer, storm clean up.
Other Work Responsibilities

  • Assist the irrigation manager with installation's or repairs as needed.
  • Assist the arborist with tree work/removal as needed.
  • Assist the construction crew with any projects as needed.
  • Assist with the moving of office furniture, and help with special event setups and tear downs.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Experience with pressure wash & soft wash equipment & practices.
  • Experience with landscaping equipment such as commercial mowers, string trimmers, blowers, etc.
  • Knowledge in mixing, applying and transporting pesticide chemicals and similar products.
  • Experience in coordinating and scheduling grounds maintenance work, and ability to act as lead worker on assigned tasks and Grounds Maintenance projects.
  • Computer experience and knowledge with Google Chrome, Sheets, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification(s).

Valid NC State driver's license or ability to obtain.
