Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Senior Tableau Cloud Administrator is responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing the organization's Tableau Cloud environment, ensuring seamless availability, performance, and governance of business intelligence (BI) assets. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong governance and stakeholder management skills to support enterprise-wide data visualization, analytics adoption, and self-service BI capabilities. The senior admin will act as the primary point of contact for Tableau Cloud administration, leading platform upgrades, integrations, monitoring, automation, and user enablement, while ensuring compliance with data security, licensing, and governance policies.

What will you do?

Platform Administration & Management

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Tableau Cloud, overseeing all aspects of platform configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Monitor platform health, usage, and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Manage user provisioning, licensing, and permissions, including role-based access controls aligned with governance policies.
  • Configure and manage data sources, extract refresh schedules, and gateway connections.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness of Tableau Cloud.

Security, Governance & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce data governance frameworks, including folder/project structures, naming conventions, and metadata management.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate security standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2), and data protection guidelines.
  • Conduct periodic audits of permissions, content, and usage to maintain security posture.
  • Collaborate with IT security teams to manage authentication (SSO/SAML, MFA) and monitor for unauthorized access.

Performance Optimization

  • Monitor dashboard and workbook performance, recommending optimization strategies to improve load times and user experience.
  • Work with developers to enforce best practices for workbook design, data source connections, and extract usage.
  • Analyze system logs, usage statistics, and performance reports to identify trends and capacity needs.

Integration & Automation

  • Integrate Tableau Cloud with enterprise systems (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, Azure, Salesforce).
  • Build and maintain automation scripts (using Python, Tableau REST API, Tabcmd, etc.) for admin tasks, data source refreshes, and content migrations.
  • Support embedded analytics initiatives and integration with internal portals.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support

  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for Tableau Cloud within the organization, supporting both technical and non-technical users.
  • Partner with data engineering, analytics, and business teams to ensure availability of accurate, trusted data sources.
  • Conduct training, workshops, and documentation to enable self-service BI adoption.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for Tableau-related issues escalated from helpdesk teams.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay up-to-date with Tableau Cloud features, releases, and best practices, making recommendations for adoption.
  • Evaluate and implement new Tableau add-ons, accelerators, and complementary analytics tools.
  • Drive automation, scalability, and governance improvements across the BI ecosystem.

Must-have

  • 3-5 years of Tableau Cloud administration experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to create, execute and maintain systems documentation
  • Ability to take initiative, function independently, and work in a team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects while ensuring goals are met

The expected salary range for this particular position is $70,000-$130,000, depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
