Role Overview The Temporary Assistant Director of Events & Marketing will oversee marketing, communications, and event support for Davidson College's Matthews Center for Career Development during maternity leave coverage. This role ensures continuity in brand voice, executing a summer marketing strategy, and ensuring thorough preparations for high-impact August - Fall events. The right candidate will be communicative, proactive, detail-oriented, warm, and capable of making independent decisions with keen awareness of the future fall/back to school cycle. This role will require 15 hours per week and it's hybrid. Core Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- Email market to students within 7 designated career-interested segmented lists promoting upcoming programs/events and jobs/internship opportunities in related fields
- Email market to all students for overall programs and opportunities through the Matthews Center
- Email market to all faculty/staff
- Email market to all parents/families
- (All the above weekly emails won't be running after May)
- Email list management and segmentation for incoming 2027 lists
- Social media marketing management
- Clear copywriting that emphasizes benefits and includes strong CTAs
- Can carry established brand voice and frameworks throughout all channels
- Print banners, flyers and other marketing collateral with printing department on campus
- Systems used : Mailchimp, Handshake, Canva, Planoly, and ScreenCloud
Graphic Design & Content Creation
- Revise templated Canva designs for general or new programs
- Update pre-made big, signature event graphics (Resumania, Employer Meet-Ups, Senior Kick Off)
- Create on-brand graphics that showcase Matthews Center and valuable career guidance
Event Preparation
- Serve as a welcoming and friendly event support staff member
- Support check-in management and on-site troubleshooting
- Set-up and break down coordination especially all marketing signage materials
- Survey students and research quality swag items within budget, coordinate delivery, and organize inventory for a fully stocked swag options by August
Calendar Management
- Maintain master marketing & events calendar
- Deliver marketing assets in timely matter and ensure appropriate lead times for promotion
- Fall event graphics finalized and ready by August 1
- Strategically coordinate email and social media cadence
- Support career advisers and execute any further marketing, communication needs, or ideas
Website & Google Analytics Management
- Familiar with Google Analytics to track metrics
- Make simple additions or edits to Google website
- Support with website management
- Create 2026 annual report website
Preferred Skills
- Strong and strategic content writer
- Project management & comfortable managing multiple platforms
- Proficient in Canva, Planoly, Mailchimp, Handshake (or other email marketing softwares)
- Proactive, awareness of future needs, and able to take initiative without need for constant direction
- Warm and collaborative with the Matthews Center's team and multiple campus departments
