Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician supports the installation and maintenance of low voltage cable infrastructure across commercial and healthcare environments. This contract-to-hire role is designed for technicians with prior experience in cabling, electrical, or construction trades who are looking to expand their technical capabilities. The technician assists with cable installation, termination, and infrastructure builds while working under the direction of a team lead. Responsibilities include supporting cable pathway installation, organizing and labeling cabling, and assisting with device installations while maintaining a safe and organized jobsite. Technicians report to the office at the start of the workday to receive materials and assignments before traveling to job sites to complete installation tasks.

Job Responsibilities




  • Install and route copper cabling, including CAT5e and CAT6, into IT closets, modular furniture, and work area outlets



  • Install cable support infrastructure including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks



  • Dress, bundle, organize, and label cabling to maintain structured and compliant installations



  • Terminate cables at patch panels, jacks, and modular plugs using appropriate tools



  • Assist with IT closet builds including MDF and IDF rooms, racks, ladder racks, and sleeves



  • Install wireless access points and other low voltage devices as directed



  • Support testing and verification of installed cabling systems



  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, diagrams, and installation drawings



  • Travel from the office to job sites with team leads and follow installation instructions



  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following OSHA safety standards and PPE requirements



  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and project personnel




Job Requirements




  • High School Diploma or GED



  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, low voltage systems, or electrical or construction trades



  • Knowledge of low voltage systems including cable pulling, cable termination, and cable management



  • Familiarity with structured cabling manufacturers and materials such as Belden and Genetech



  • Experience using common cabling tools including punch-down tools, snips, crimpers, and related hand tools



  • OSHA 10 certification or higher preferred



  • BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2 certification preferred



  • Scissor lift or aerial lift certification preferred



  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and remain on feet for extended periods



  • Must possess a basic personal tool set including screwdrivers, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, punch-down tool, crimper, flashlight, work boots, gloves, and tool pouch




Work Experience




  • Experience working in commercial construction, healthcare facilities, warehouses, or similar project environments preferred



  • Experience supporting structured cabling installations in commercial AV, new construction, or low voltage infrastructure projects preferred
