Pioneer Recycling, a Waste Connections company, is a leading provider in recycling and resource recovery. We are seeking a dedicated, safety-minded Facility Maintenance Technician to support daily operations at our Frederickson, WA, Material Recovery Facility. In this role, you will perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including equipment repairs, preventive inspections, and facility system upkeep, to ensure our operation runs safely, efficiently, and without interruption. Summary The Facility Technician is responsible for maintaining the building and yard in full compliance with Waste Connections' internal standards, OSHA, L&I, and all applicable environmental and safety regulations. This is a nondriver, safetysensitive position with no roaddriving responsibilities. The role supports facility operations through preventive maintenance, inspections, repair tasks, and operation of powered industrial equipment, including compact loaders, wheel loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts. All work is assigned, tracked, and completed through the site-designated CMMS. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the building and yard in compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections and keep documentation accurate and up to date.
- Conduct routine inspections of the building, including roofing, leaks, lighting, signage, and structural concerns.
- Inspect rain drain sinks throughout the yard and ensure all drainage filters are clean and functioning properly for stormwater compliance.
- Maintain the yard in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Perform general facility repairs such as painting, patching, sealing, basic carpentry, and minor maintenance tasks.
- Support landscaping and groundskeeping, including trimming, weeding, and exterior housekeeping.
- Perform troubleshooting on facility systems such as water lines, drainage areas, access points, lighting, and other building infrastructure.
- Operate compact loaders, wheel loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts as needed for facility work.
- Use the site's CMMS to receive, update, document, and close work orders in a timely manner.
- Report and document safety hazards, compliance issues, and corrective actions.
- Follow all Waste Connections safety policies and PPE requirements.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to support uptime and overall site performance.
- Coordinate with contractors for specialized repairs or maintenance.
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- Schedule may be adjusted depending on operational needs.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional heavier lifting using assistance.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, and walking throughout the facility and yard.
- Ability to work at elevated heights using boom lifts and scissor lifts.
- Work may occur indoors or outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Frequent exposure to machinery, conveyors, balers, loaders, and noise typical of an industrial environment.
- Consistent and proper use of required PPE.
Typical MRF Working Environment
- Exposure to strong odors from mixed recyclables and residual waste.
- Possible presence of pests such as insects or rodents.
- High noise levels from conveyors, balers, and heavy equipment.
- Dust, debris, and airborne particulates common in sorting and processing operations.
- Variable temperatures depending on the season and whether work is performed indoors or outdoors.
- Slippery or uneven walking surfaces in loading, tipping, and processing areas.
- Continuous movement of trucks, loaders, forklifts, and industrial machinery, requiring high awareness.
- Frequent walking, climbing, and navigating around large equipment.
- PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toe boots required at all times.
Job Requirements
- No driver's license required; the role does not include road-driving responsibilities.
- Previous facility, mechanical, or industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
- Comfort working around heavy equipment and in an active industrial environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in variable weather and environmental conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and communication.
