Description

The Immediate Opening is for the PM Shift - 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM
DEFINITION
Under supervision to maintain records and files relating to parts purchasing and warehousing for the City Fleet Maintenance Division; pick up and deliver parts; perform typing and prepare periodic maintenance reports on the City's fleet using a computer; and to perform related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are expected to have a general knowledge of basic stockroom and bookkeeping principles and have developed work habits sufficient to enable them to perform routine work without immediate supervision. Incumbents in this class perform work with established instructions and in accordance with standard City procedures. Incumbents receive thorough instruction when tasks are initially assigned and, after training, are expected to perform duties without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion and while in progress. Incumbents are expected to refer most variations in work to the supervisor for instructions.

Examples of Duties

Maintains detailed records showing all maintenance and parts replacement from each piece of City equipment; operates a computer for data storage and printing of periodic maintenance reports for the City's automotive and equipment fleet; keeps a running inventory of the parts and materials in stock and organizes stock for easy retrieval; prepares purchase orders and processes invoices subject to supervisory approval for needed parts; checks requisitions and receiving reports for corrections and completeness; drives a vehicle to various locations to obtain and deliver needed parts, materials or supplies; cleans parts, storage and shop area rooms; does various other clerical and typing duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

LICENSE REQUIRED

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Experience:
  • At least one year experience in stock or storeroom maintenance, bookkeeping, or clerical work, preferably dealing with automotive parts and supplies.
Education:
  • Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Modern office methods, practices and procedures;
  • Basic stock room principles of organization and inventory;
  • Basic bookkeeping principles;
  • Use of computers.
Ability to:
  • Type and operate a computer with sufficient skill to maintain and retrieve records;
  • Follow the City's purchasing procedures;
  • Perform a wide range of clerical functions;
  • Make arithmetical computations;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships;
  • Maintain a variety of accurate records.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Strength: Moderate work-lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Applicants must meet each qualification for the position by the deadline date. All applications will be reviewed based on the necessary employment standards for the position. Candidates receiving a passing score may be placed on an eligibility list for a period of up to one (1) year. Examinations and department interviews for the position will be administered in the City of Clovis. As determined by the City and at the City's expense, successful candidates shall be required to complete and pass a medical examination, a drug/alcohol screen, and a background investigation. Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record will be required prior to hire. Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
