Position Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of safety, people, and quality. This role works closely with the department supervisors, other department leads, and processing Team Members, in order to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and to ensure that our customers receive quality products. This position executes processes that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations, supporting Foster Poultry Farms' mission, vision, and ACTION guiding principles: Accountability, Collaboration, Truth-Seeking, Initiative, Ownership, and Nimbleness.

Essential Functions



  • Responsible for all aspects of safety, food safety, and retention goals.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and operation of all manufacturing departments and for meeting department and company goals and standards on quality, yield, productivity, cost and safety.
  • Responsible for development and training of supervisors, Team Leads and Team Members, working within the guidelines of the union contract and company policies.
  • Responsible for quick and timely feedback to manager on all exceptions in regard to productivity, downtime, quality, yield and safety.
  • Responsible for monitoring standards and indexes needed to control the area of responsibility.
  • Administer to ensure that safety orientations and safety meetings are held as required to keep frequency and severity to a minimum.
  • Participates at department meetings in the planning process and to the testing and development of techniques/processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.



All personnel employed or associated with Foster Poultry Farms are responsible for the quality and food safety of company products. The food safety and quality policies are summarized and communicated in a company handbook and at training sessions. Each new hire is provided a handbook and attends a food safety training session before beginning work. All employees attend a refresher training session at least once per year. Records are maintained reflecting the distribution of employee handbooks and attendance at the training sessions.

Physical Requirements

Qualified applicants must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:



  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor
  • Must be able to withstand a cold (40-48 degree) environment.
  • Must be able to withstand a hot (80+ degree) environment.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.



Qualifications



  • Must have a B.S. or B.A. degree in Business Management or equivalent work experience of 5-10 years in the food processing industry.
  • Must have demonstrated ability communicate verbally and in writing and must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a balanced technical/mechanical/human resource knowledge.
  • Must be able to evaluate Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Team Members fairly and objectively.
  • Must have the ability to interface on a daily basis with all support groups or departments.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Must have basic math skills.


  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Decision making ability for the flagging of deviation from procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and clean up preferred.
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work safely and set an example of safe working habits for their coworkers.
  • Must be able to safely operate forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Must wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
