The Avionics Master Technician troubleshoots and repairs or overhauls the most complex aircraft instruments and avionics components to manufacturer specifications, customer expectations and Duncan Aviation approved procedures. In addition, this position performs proficiently in additional specialized technical or operational duties; provides technical assistance and coordinates technical training; fills in for the team leader in his/her absence; and may perform as Quality Inspector (QI). The Avionics Master Technician acts as a positive role model by supporting company and shop decisions, and assisting in communicating and accomplishing shop and team goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

1. Consistently and efficiently troubleshoots and repairs or overhauls avionics components and instruments, including "quick turns" and highly complex units, using the appropriate test equipment and technical publications, according to manufacturer specifications customer expectations and Duncan approved procedures. Orders parts needed to complete the work. Completes accurate and timely documentation.

2. Performs additional specialized technical or operational duties as assigned by management, such as:



  • Operating in multiple areas or teams of the shop, Avionics Line and Accessory;
  • Routinely providing technical assistance to the aircraft maintenance department, components technical representatives and other departments;
  • Special projects and programs (i.e. developing and implementing specialized training programs, developing and implementing processes to improve workflow and increase efficiencies, coordinating line services, coordinating calibration schedules for test equipment, etc.).


3. Prepares complete, accurate and timely information for creating repair estimates and assists other team members in completion of repair documentation.

4. Coordinates and assists Professional Development team in developing and presenting internal technical training. Willingly and effectively shares knowledge and capabilities with less experienced technicians through OJT and mentoring to foster their development, ensure accurate work and support of the team's goals.

5. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Job Specific Requirements



  • Licenses/Certificates: Eligibility for QI designation
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required
  • Physical: Routinely lifts 10 lbs., occasionally 50 lbs.; identifies colors; tolerates standing and sitting; reads small print; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in a noisy environment



Education and Experience



  • Associates Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum five years previous avionics/instrument repair or related experience required with a minimum two years consistently performing duties of an Avionics/Instrument Tech III preferred
