Overview

Veeco is seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer who is passionate about supporting innovative technologies and partnering closely with customers to bring advanced semiconductor solutions into production. In this role, you will support Veeco's industry-leading wafer processing equipment at customer fabs, playing a hands-on role in installing, sustaining, and optimizing tools that enable next-generation devices and materials.

This position offers the opportunity to deepen your technical expertise within a collaborative, safety-focused culture that values ownership, learning, and continuous improvement. You will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, gaining exposure to complex systems and real-time problem-solving in high-impact manufacturing environments. As a trusted on-site technical contributor, you will help customers successfully adopt new technologies, resolve challenging issues, and achieve their production goals-making this an exciting role for an engineer looking to grow within Veeco and build a long-term career in field service.

The position is based out of Veeco's Somerset, New Jersey office, with significant domestic travel and occasional international travel for customer support and training. While preference is given to candidates residing in Somerset, NJ, qualified U.S.-based candidates are encouraged to apply if willing to relocate before the start date.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, upgrade, testing, warranty, and repair activities for semiconductor manufacturing equipment in compliance with Veeco and customer safety and security protocols.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and resolve equipment and system malfunctions; implement corrective actions to restore tool performance.
  • Support the introduction and implementation of new processes, methods, and equipment designs.
  • Drive on-site field activities and technical communications, serving as the primary support resource for assigned customer sites.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure high satisfaction and long-term retention.
  • Accurately document all tool actions, events, and daily activities in the Veeco Service Portal (VSP) and follow up on open issues as required.
  • Maintain regular communication with teammates and Field Service Management using Microsoft tools.
  • Adhere to all safety, confidentiality, travel, and expense policies.
  • Participate in technical training and accept mentorship from senior Field Service Engineers and management.
  • Travel will be a normal requirement of this role. The travel percentage is determined by customer needs and/or the frequency of new installations, typically 50% but rarely exceeding 75%. More extensive travel during the initial 6-month period to gain hands-on experience, including possible international travel, will be necessary.

Training Ramp:

  • Initial training will focus on handson learning through domestic customer site installations, with potential international travel as needed to support training and skill development.
  • During the ramp period, the Field Service Engineer will work under the guidance of an installation lead and senior engineers, gradually expanding scope and responsibility.
  • Upon achieving training completion as approved by the manager, the engineer will assume increased autonomy within the project while continuing to receive mentorship and oversight as needed.
  • Over time, responsibilities will expand toward independent execution and customer ownership, to serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for assigned customer sites.
  • Training progression is selfdriven, with timelines based on individual development, demonstrated competency, and readiness to operate independently.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to access to ITAR-controlled information
  • Associate's degree in a science or technology-related field preferred; military technical training will be considered
  • A minimum of 5 years of overall experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing, complex capital equipment, or relevant equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with semiconductor process equipment and subsystems, including vacuum, gas delivery, chemistry, electronics, robotics, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with platforms from Veeco or other major semiconductor equipment manufacturers is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and installation drawings.
  • Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals and component identification.
  • Understanding of process fundamentals involving gas flow, pressure, temperature, pneumatics, robotics, and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Experience with system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
  • Strong communication skills and professional customer interaction.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements
