What to Expect

This is a pivotal role to help shape the dynamic, evolving U.S. power grid landscape in Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. This role requires innovative problem solving and deep critical thinking throughout the interconnection lifecycle of battery energy storage systems and loads. The role will perform due diligence on Tesla's development pipeline, participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder meetings to shape, reform, and help improve interconnection processes, develop strategy to help accelerate interconnection of Tesla's products to the grid for customers.


What You'll Do
  • Perform interconnection due-diligence on projects in study phases in various ISO queues identifying development risks
  • Lead interconnection for Tesla's generation and load projects through to operations navigating the complex ISO/RTO processes, coordinating completion of engineering deliverables, and ensuring compliance with standards in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Stay informed and disseminate summary identifying changes in interconnection requirements related to study process, timelines, power system modeling etc.
  • Participate in relevant ISO stakeholder working groups to identify proposed rulemaking that aims to reform interconnection process and may have an impact on either Tesla and/or its customers
  • Coordinate with internal teams to address a wide variety of interconnection queries ranging from new market entry, new product introduction, and/or interpretation of specific tariff language or existing rule interpretation for Tesla and or its customers

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an interconnection role with a developer, generator owner/operator, engineering or power systems consultant, or a utility/ISO etc.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/RTO generator interconnection and transmission planning processes in one or more of the following: ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, SPP, MISO, SERC, NYISO, ISO-NE, WECC, etc.
  • Not strictly required but proficiency in software tools for power system modeling and economic analysis such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, and/or TARA, PROMOD will be a plus
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to ensure clear communication internally with leadership, peers, and other teams across Tesla
  • Ability to effectively manage time and set priorities, be detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to manage shifting priorities is critical for this role

    Expected Compensation
    $112,000 - $217,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
