Position Summary
An essential member of a regional payroll team, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for payroll administration for over 800 employees in locations throughout Alaska. Employee will coordinate with Corporate payroll team in the Lower 48 to ensure timely weekly and bi-weekly payrolls, investigate payroll inquiries, and assists in data entry and reporting.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records
  • Review wages computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Review data concerning transfer of employees between departments.
  • Process temporary pay increases
  • Review and process weekly and biweekly timesheets with heavy job cost coding
  • Auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards
  • Record payroll deductions

  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures for payroll activities
  • Provide timely customer support for all employee payroll relates questions/issues

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Ability to learn/navigate payroll systems or databases
  • Able to manage one's own time and the time of others
  • Skills in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing and speaking so others understand
  • Skill in prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment with deadlines
  • Knowledge of State and Federal wage and hour law regulations (preferred).
  • Ability to work some weekends and holidays depending on the payroll schedule

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years' work experience in a payroll or general administrative role
  • 2 years' work experience with Office Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, & Outlook)
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
