Sr Data Engineer - 100% Remote

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a contract position located in Eden Prairie, MN. This is an 11+ month contract opportunity and is 100% remote.

Compensation: $70.00 - 75.00 per hour, W2, depending on skill and experience level.

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in Azure Databricks, PySpark, and modern data engineering practices. The ideal candidate will design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and contribute to the development of enterprise-grade data platforms. Strong Python experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Databricks, PySpark, and other Azure data services.
• Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and processing frameworks for large-scale structured and semi-structured datasets.
• Work with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) to design performant and cost-optimized data architectures.
• Implement Delta Lake best practices, including ACID transactions, schema enforcement, and time travel.
• Collaborate with product owners, analysts, and SMEs to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Optimize PySpark jobs for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Implement data quality checks, validation frameworks, and monitoring solutions.
• Automate workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF), job clusters, and DevOps pipelines.
• Contribute to data governance, security standards, and compliance processes.
• Review code, mentor junior engineers, and support best practice engineering patterns.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience in: Azure Databricks, PySpark / Apache Spark, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake (Gen2).
• Solid programming experience in Python (data processing, automation, libraries).
• Strong SQL skills for analytical and transformation workloads.
• Experience with distributed compute and large-scale data processing.
• Understanding of CI/CD, Git, and DevOps practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, architecture thinking, and performance optimization experience.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to drive technical discussions and influence solution design.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, cloud-first engineering environments.

Desired skills:

• Experience with: Delta Lake, Azure Synapse, streaming technologies (Kafka/Event Hubs), dbt, Airflow, or other orchestration tools, and Snowflake or cloud warehousing tools.
• Exposure to healthcare data (FHIR, HL7, claims) is a plus.
