National Grid is hiring a Category Manager - Energy Efficiency & Marketing. This hybrid role sits in our Brooklyn NY location.

Job Purpose

Reporting into the Head of Category for Workforce and Professional Services, the Category Manager is accountable for developing and implementing strategic category strategies, managing supply chain strategies that optimize cost, ensure quality and reliability of supply, and leading all procurement activities. The role acts as an operational business partner for the specified Business Unit, supporting strategic alignment and providing insight and recommendations. The Category Manager will engage with critical suppliers, implement supplier and contract management strategies, and ensure the supply chain meets business needs.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and deliver category strategies for Energy Efficiency and Marketing, ensuring maximum value and alignment with business priorities.
  • Lead procurement activities including RFPs, Stagegate governance approvals, Preparing and submitting documentation to justify sourcing routes, and compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Manage supplier relationships, ensuring performance against KPIs and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic and commercial insight, including sustainability and risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Coordinate across Procurement sub-functions (Sustainability, Risk & Transparency, Supplier Development).
  • Identify and mitigate risks such as supply chain disruptions, price volatility, and compliance gaps.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering innovation and accountability.
  • Support annual pipeline planning and savings workshops, ensuring delivery to senior stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in systems such as Ariba and Coupa.
Qualifications
  • Proven procurement experience in category management, ideally in Energy Efficiency and Marketing.
  • Expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and contract management.
  • Experience managing complex RFP processes and governance steps (PA23).
  • Strong understanding of sustainability objectives and supply chain risk management.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate effectively across functions.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and driving strategic change.
  • Proficiency in procurement systems (Ariba, Coupa) and data analytics for decision-making.
  • Degree level or relevant professional qualification such as CIPS, or equivalent experience.

Salary

$151,000 - $178,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
