This role supports the accounting and reporting processes for multiple reinsurance agreements within Protective's Reinsured Premium Team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of monthly and quarterly accounting responsibilities, including preparing reinsurance accruals, reconciling reinsured premium payables, completing journal entries, generating reporting packages, and assisting with audit activity.
This position plays a key role in ensuring data accuracy and integrity through detailed analysis and validation. The role also involves working across multiple administrative systems, supporting a wide range of acquired products, serving as a point of contact for reinsured companies, and contributing to process improvements and automation initiatives within the Reinsurance Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly reinsurance accruals.
  • Reconcile and distribute reinsured premium payables.
  • Perform manual calculations for reinsurance programs not maintained within reinsurance systems.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly reports, including settlement statements and other required documentation.
  • Analyze financial results and provide insights or explanations as needed.
  • Conduct reconciliations for key reinsurance accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies by collaborating with internal departments and external partners.
  • Support internal and external audits during quarterly and annual review cycles.
  • Serve as a resource for internal and external stakeholders regarding reinsured premium activity.
  • Assist with statutory and GAAP financial reporting requirements.
  • Participate in crosstraining within the team to support group development.
  • Contribute to process improvement and automation efforts involving manual processes.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and handling large data sets.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and Statutory reporting, general ledgers, accounting systems, and operational accounting workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with SAP, SQL, Power Query, or Power BI.
  • Insurance or reinsurance industry experience.
Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $63,500 to $76,500. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees.
The internal title for this position is Analyst II, General Accounting.
