Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an AI Integration Specialist: Project Hire to work on our Technology Deployment team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every or every other Friday off. INL's Technology Deployment office is a forward-thinking organization that not only manages innovation but actively practices it. Technology Deployment transforms INL's research outcomes into impactful products and services by partnering with private industry. As an AI Integration Specialist, you will support the AI Integration Lead on dedicated projects, most notably ATLAS, a DOE funded initiative to embed AI into technology transfer workflows. Your work will help modernize processes, reduce manual effort, enhance market research, and strengthen INL's leadership in AI-driven technology deployment. You will work with AI running on INL's HPC, both training LLMs and using popular LLMs in applications and for coding. You will collaborate closely with scientists, licensing professionals, market analysts, and operational partners to design, refine, and integrate AI tools that accelerate INL's innovation pipeline. This is a one-year project hire position with the possibility of a potential extension. Responsibilities Include: AI Tool Development & Workflow Integration
ATLAS Program Support
- Contribute to the architecture, development, and continuous improvement of ATLAS, INL's AI-augmented workflow platform for Technology Deployment.
- Translate conceptual process needs from the Technology Deployment team into functional and technical requirements for AI capabilities.
Create process models, diagrams, and value stream maps that guide integration of AI solutions into existing systems. AI-Enhanced Market Research & Commercialization - Develop AI-powered market research workflows to identify commercialization pathways, market trends, gaps, and competitive landscapes.
- Use AI tools to accelerate due diligence, industry scouting, and assessment of intellectual property positioning.
AI-Supported Technology Transfer Activities
- Assist in integrating AI into innovation, licensing, and intellectual property management processes.
- Use AI tools to automate routine analysis, document drafting, and opportunity evaluation.
- Process Modernization & Organizational Enablement
Analyze departmental workflows to identify high-impact AI intervention points.
- Document requirements clearly and accurately using standard templates.
- Prepare implementation plans for incorporating new AI capabilities into existing processes.
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to shape project vision and scope.
- Provide recommendations for process improvement and contribute to transformation initiatives.
Strategic Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate enhancements, system changes, and requirements to project teams through precise written documentation.
- Prepare visually clear specifications, diagrams, and charts for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Work with INL incubators, foundations, and partner organizations to identify opportunities to apply AI solutions to broader innovation goals.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Level 1: Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of experience.
- Level 2: Bachelor's and 2 years of experience. Master's and 0 years of experience. PhD and 0 years' experience
Degree must be from an accredited institution and should be in the following areas: Computer Science, Software Engineering & Development, Computer & Systems Engineering, Data, AI & Computational Intelligence, Information Systems, IT & Cyber, Computational & Applied Mathematics. - This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Python, JavaScript, and prompt Engineering.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($47,424 - $92,568) / Level 2($57,444 - $112,068). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
- Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
