Overview:

The contractor shall support the OLPA by writing treatments and scripts, including performing the requisite research and interviews to accomplish these tasks. While an on-site contractor may serve as the lead writer on a given project, they will most often coordinate with other OLPA and NSF staff, university researchers and public information officers, etc. Scripts will call for clearly communicating science news, concepts, NSF programs and initiatives, and more, through video in a compelling, creative, easy-to-understand manner, including to various age groups and audiences (potentially including children) and in various styles (potentially including humor). In most cases, scripts will be less than four minutes in length, often significantly less.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, produce, write and create audio content, including (but not limited to) research topics.
  • Coordinate, record and conduct interviews
  • Write, report, narrate and host segments/podcasts
  • Edit audio content (spoken word, natural sound, music and sound effects) into audio packages, segments and podcasts
  • Seek appropriate distribution and distribute content
  • Notify media and distribution platforms of the content's availability.
  • Several of the above tasks may be accomplished in concert with various members of OLPA teams. The contractor shall respond to queries from the public, media, and research community regarding content produced.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as an audio producer.
  • Contractor must have the following experience:
    • Conceiving, developing, and creating audio segments, programs and series on a variety of scales.
    • Scriptwriting in a variety of styles for audio projects.
    • Translating complex topics into compelling audio for a variety of audiences.
    • Narrating audio and video productions in a variety of styles.
    • On-air experience.
  • It is preferred that the contractor has this experience:
    • On camera.
    • Conducting and editing interviews.
    • Creative problem-solving.

  • Scripting and narrating.
  • Writing and reporting.
  • Audio and video production.
  • Interviewing.
  • Researching.
  • Content creating.
