UMKCs' Kansas City Athletics - Men's Basketball program

Job Description

COACHING AND TRAINING DUTIES: Organize and administer all aspects of the women's basketball program. Establish goals and objectives for the women's basketball program on a long-range and annual basis. Develop and implement a recruiting plan to attract the best prospective student-athletes to the program. Formulate and carry out daily, weekly and monthly workout schedules, instruct during practice sessions and scheduled competitions. Plan and implement the conditioning program with consultation with team Strength & Conditioning Coach. Plan and oversee pre-season and off-season training. Work closely with Training Room personnel regarding prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.

FINANCIAL AND BUDGETING DUTIES: Work with sport supervisor to develop annual budget for review and approval. Work within budget limits and guidelines as established by the department. Expend resources according to established departmental and University policy and procedures. Oversee the award of financial aid within departmental and NCAA limits. Plan for facility needs for the year and submit appropriate requests as necessary.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Establish the annual competitive schedule. Verify dates, times and contract obligations. Oversee arrangements for team travel. Finalize all needs for day-of-game personnel prior to the beginning of the season. Work with Sports Information staff to provide needed statistics, results, quotes, and to meet appropriate deadlines. Keep records of the program and each athlete on file. Coordinate and cooperate with Student-Athlete Support Services Office to ensure eligibility and to encourage academic progress of each student in the program.

PUBLIC RELATIONS DUTIES: Along with External Relations staff, develop and implement a program to promote and market women's basketball in order to increase visibility, ticket sales, contributions and interest in the program. Organize and conduct youth camps and coaching clinics as part of the ongoing public relations and promotion of the program. Administer a program for maintaining continuing communication with donors, former players and local basketball community.

MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: Work with Academic Support to ensure retention, graduation, and commitment to life skills. Work with Equipment Manager regarding inventory and the need to order or replace equipment and/or uniforms. Report the need for repairs to facility to the appropriate administrator.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the Summit League is of paramount importance. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Knowledge of college basketball and NCAA rules required. Collegiate coaching experience required. Proven ability to establish positive relationships with donors, alumni, former players and local basketball community essential. Proven ability to relate to high school and college-aged student-athletes essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred. College coaching at a NCAA Division I or II institution strongly preferred.

Record of recruitment of regional talent preferred.

Competitive playing experience and fund-raising experience desirable.

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations with a proven ability to recruit quality student athletes and to manage a quality program is required.

Proven ability to establish positive relationships with donors, alumni, former players and local basketball community essential.

Proven ability to relate to high school and college-aged student-athletes essential.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Contract will be negotiated between candidate, their agent, and UMKC's Athletics Director
