Job Summary
The Material Management Coordinator is responsible for providing cross-functional leadership and oversight across all material movement, logistics, evaluation, compliance, and documentation activities within the organization. This role acts as the operational hub between international logistics and technical material evaluation teams, ensuring that radioactive materials and special-process wastes are accurately classified and accepted within site license conditions, compliantly transported, and managed efficiently from origin to final disposition.
Job Duties / Tasks / Responsibilities
- Leadership & Oversight:
- Provide daily direction and workflow oversight to the International Logistics Manager and Material Evaluation Specialist.
- Ensure alignment between schedules, requirements, and quality expectations.
- Standardize processes, procedures, and reporting tools across both functions.
- Material Evaluation & Regulatory Compliance:
- Oversee evaluation of client materials and ensure accurate classification.
- Support compliance with US, EU, and international regulatory frameworks.
- Monitor non-conformances and direct corrective actions.
- International Logistics Management:
- Oversee all global transport activities, shipping compliance, customs interactions and tariff controls.
- Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Act as central interface between project management, regulatory teams, operations, and external logistics vendors.
- Consolidate KPIs from both teams.
- Continuous Improvement & Governance:
- Update SOPs, checklists, and regulatory documentation.
- Support internal/external audits.
- Other Duties:
- Support staff training.
- Contribute to cost analysis and optimization.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required (logistics, environmental sciences, engineering, chemistry, or related discipline).
Required Experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years combined experience across logistics, waste/material evaluation, regulatory compliance, or related operations.
- Experience working with international transport regulations, material classification, and/or waste characterization workflows.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with transport of radioactive materials (Class 7), IMDG/ADR modal certifications, or waste characterization.
- Experience working with US and EU, or Asian clients.
Certifications
- Logistics, transport, or radiological material certifications are preferred.
- Membership in technical societies (e.g., MCRSP or equivalent) beneficial.
Required and Desired Skills
- Strong working knowledge of NRC, DOT, IMDG, ADR, DOE, and DOD requirements.
- Ability to analyze material data, develop summaries, and oversee compliance documentation.
- Strong communication skills to interface with regulators, customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to manage complex datasets.
- Excellent problem-solving, organization, and priority management skills.
Physical / Working Conditions
- Ability to work in office, field, warehouse, port, and potentially extreme environmental conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to wear PPE including chemical-resistant coveralls and respiratory protection.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure and independently or with others.
