Laboratory: Ryan Lab The Ryan Lab at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join an interdisciplinary research program focused on airway biology and regeneration. Position Summary The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research using in vitro and in vivo models of tracheal regeneration, with a particular emphasis on advanced tissue-engineering platforms such as Emulate lung-on-a-chip systems. This position offers opportunities for scientific leadership, mentorship, and professional development within a collaborative academic environment. Key Responsibilities * Design, execute, and analyze experiments using in vitro and in vivo models of tracheal and airway regeneration * Utilize and optimize lung-on-a-chip (Emulate) platforms to investigate mechanisms of airway repair * Analyze and interpret experimental data and actively participate in scientific discussions related to project development and findings * Mentor and supervise junior trainees, including graduate students and undergraduate researchers * Prepare, revise, and finalize manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals * Present research findings at local, national, and international scientific conferences * Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure reproducibility and data integrity * Develop, optimize, and document experimental protocols * Train new laboratory personnel in relevant techniques and procedures * Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams within and outside the institution * Ensure compliance with institutional, federal, and regulatory research guidelines * Perform other related postdoctoral duties as assigned Required Qualifications * PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, cell biology, physiology, or a related field * Experience with in vitro and/or in vivo experimental models * Strong background in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing * Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment Preferred Qualifications * Experience with airway biology, regenerative medicine, or tissue engineering * Familiarity with microphysiological systems or organ-on-a-chip platforms * Experience mentoring students or junior researchers * Record of peer-reviewed publications Environment and Training The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine provides a highly collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art core facilities and professional development resources.
