DESCRIPTION

The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) School of Medicine (SOM) is dedicated to serving its communities and creating a healthier world by being the preeminent destination for transformative, innovative, and impactful research, medical education, and clinical care.

As the only medical school in the region and the largest school at UC San Diego, SOM is home to more than 1,800 faculty, 1,000 medical and graduate students, and over 1,000 residents and post-doctoral fellows across 20 academic departments. SOM is housed within UC San Diego Health Sciences, which comprises three professional schools, more than 30 research institutes, and a growing clinical practice at UC San Diego Health-the top-ranked health system in the region.

In fiscal year 2025, the School of Medicine secured nearly $654 million in research awards, accounting for 78% of research funding within Health Sciences.

The Office of the Dean is responsible for leading SOM's overall strategic vision; developing and implementing initiatives that enhance teaching, research, and clinical care across its departments, the Division of Medical Education and Division of Graduate Education; and establishing collaborative partnerships across campus and the community to advance its mission.

The position is responsible for conducting day-to-day website edits for the School of Medicine's website (medschool.ucsd.edu) to ensure timely updates and accurate content; writing and expanding website content in collaboration with the communications team and School of Medicine stakeholders; and building new pages for key areas such as research and graduate education. The incumbent ensures all website content adheres to accessibility requirements. May assist the school departments in website design and updates as needed.

In addition, the position contributes to the design of marketing materials, including infographics, flyers, branded promotional products, and signage. Technical proficiency in website content management systems and design software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Activities and assignments are designed to expose incumbents to fundamental communications and marketing concepts and principles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two (2) additional years of experience.

  • Expert knowledge of website usability concepts.

  • Demonstrated ability to design web application user interfaces.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to write copy for digital platforms and websites

  • Experience with Google Analytics and SiteImprove.

  • Expert proficiency in WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Adobe Illustrator, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of marketing principles, strategies, techniques and practices.

  • Basic knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,300 - $103,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $49.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
