JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Center for Business Development and Community Outreach at Penn State Scranton provides continuing education, professional development, and career advancement programs in response to the region's educational and professional development needs. Our team serves students, working professionals, entrepreneurs, businesses, and community organizations by providing summer camps, workshops, professionally relevant courses, certificate programs, customized corporate training opportunities, and mentoring for those wishing to start and grow businesses.

We are currently seeking applications for a Part-Time (24 hr/weekly) Administrative Support Assistant. The selected candidate must be available for the month of July, as this department is responsible for summer camps/programming. Specific scheduling questions can be addressed during the interview.

The successful candidate will have a broad variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Greeting customers and visitors
  • Answering and directing telephone and email inquiries
  • Ordering office supplies
  • Assisting with events
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Maintaining calendars
  • Gathering information and processing expenditures for payment
  • Working with financial and registration software
  • Ensuring the office is compliant with records management policies
  • Processing mail
  • Data entry, and establishing and maintaining work unit files and databases
  • Other duties as assigned

This position typically requires a High School diploma/GED or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with standard computer applications and programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google workspace are required. This position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, as well as professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The person filling this position must be team oriented as this is a fast-paced interactive operation.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
