Common responsibilities include preparing the patient for the visit, maintaining efficient patient flow, assisting the provider with treatments and procedures, medication administration, support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, authorization and in-basket support with the electronic medical records.

Responsibilities:

*Prepares and positions patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation and draping.
*Assists the surgeon with visualization of the operative field using retractors, sponges, suction, and irrigation.
*Anticipates surgeon and procedural needs throughout the operation.
*Selects, passes, and manages surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
*Controls bleeding using hemostasis techniques such as sponging, clamping, cauterization, and suturing as directed by the surgeon.
*Assists with closure of surgical incisions using sutures or staples and applies appropriate dressings.
*Secures surgical drains to prevent postoperative fluid accumulation.
*Participates in surgical counts in collaboration with the surgical team.
*Performs pre- and post-operative activities to support continuity of patient care.
*Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
*Adheres to all PMG policies, procedures, and safety standards.
*Maintains required licensure, certification, and competencies.
*Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

*Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
*Completion of an approved RN First Assist (RNFA) program.
*State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
*Current certification as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or Surgical Assistant-Certified (SA-C) required.
*Minimum 2 years of perioperative or operating room nursing experience.
*Current BLS and ACLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
*CNOR certification.
*Experience in surgical oncology, robotic, laparoscopic, or minimally invasive procedures.
*Experience supporting complex or high-acuity surgical cases.
