6:30 am - 3:30 pm Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required as necessary, and with 'on-call' designation.
This position is expected to adjust work schedule to work with Second Shift multiple times each semester. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Building Services Dayshift Supervisor is primarily responsible for overseeing housekeeping and building services operations within the Cone University Center. This role requires close collaboration with other Building Environmental Services (
BES) supervisors and staff to ensure the facility is maintained to high departmental standards and delivers exceptional customer service. This position is also the primary supervisor responsible for the housekeeping services of the 49th Acre facility.
In addition to administrative and supervisory duties, this position serves as a working supervisor, actively assisting with tasks on the floor as needed. The supervisor coordinates with the Assistant Director and Coordinator to provide support for building event services as needed. They attend weekly operations meetings ensuring effective communication of building operations needs.
Key responsibilities include planning and scheduling work, identifying and addressing training needs for first and second shift staff, assessing labor and material requirements, and maintaining adequate inventory levels. Under the guidance of department leadership, the supervisor also contributes to identifying services and programs that best meet the needs of the university community. Additionally, they support housekeeping and building services activities across the broader Student Centers department as needed. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a
GED, and one (1) year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
| Essential Job Duties |
- Leads and supervises cleaning and upkeep of all building areas assigned inside the Cone University Center and designated perimeter outside, to the established high department standards. In addition to administrative and supervisory duties, this position serves as a working supervisor, actively assisting with tasks on the floor as needed.
- Leads and supervises cleaning and housekeeping services for 49th Acre facility.
- Oversees staff performance and directly performs advanced operations of equipment such as restorers, buffers, auto scrubbers, burnishers, ready space. machines for maintaining floors, removing and reapplying finish, spot cleaning, extracting carpet, etc.
- Ensures building is clean and well maintained for optimum customer satisfaction.
- Listens and responds to customer needs promptly and respectfully.
- Coordinates with Assistant Director, Operations Assistants and Coordinator on conference room cleaning before and after event set ups. Assists with room setups as needed.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
- Establishes a culture of safety for employees and ensures that work processes are free from safety and health hazards, that employees are properly trained and that programs are in place to ensure safety; enforces all safety requirements for the position.
- Key responsibilities include planning and scheduling work, identifying and addressing training needs for first and second shift staff, assessing labor and material requirements, and maintaining adequate inventory levels.
- Responsible for organizing and directing routine schedules. Determines and carries out levels of training and methods for training workers to maintain a trained work force and provides on the job follow up.
- Oversees and administers facility supply and equipment inventory controls and procedures. Coordinates and organizes equipment and supplies that arrive in shipment, ensures neat and safe storage areas, periodically reviews equipment on hand. Maintain and manage supply inventory to ensure adequate quantity to meet the needs of daily responsibilities and assignments; replenishes supply inventory in conjunction with Supervisor as necessary.
- Keeps accurate time/attendance records, approves to ensure fair wage/benefit dispensations to employees. Approves non-routine leave requests and maintains proper timekeeping records on each employee. Administers and ensures compliance with human resources policies and procedures. Assists in Recruitment and Selection process; develops, counsels, and disciplines employees.

| Other Work Responsibilities |
- Monitors quality and quantity of work while in process and upon completion. Evaluate workers to sustain a consistently high level of performance; makes decisions concerning the progress and abilities of each employee.
- *Counsel employees on problems, job performance, and make necessary referrals. Offer suggestions for improvement. Prepares personnel action memorandums, performance plan development and personnel evaluations.
- Communicate regularly with staff regarding essential employee information, University policy changes, upcoming events, and other issues pertinent to the staff. Conduct daily briefing of staff to discuss tasks, staff outages, potential non-routine information, and 25Live schedule.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with staff and colleagues at all times. Represent the department and the university in a positive manner.
- Serve as liaison between first shift and third shift, communicating freely and diligently with fellow supervisors and technicians to maintain staff cohesiveness. In coordination with Associate Director, sets work for planned days to work with second shift staff.
- Consults with Associate Director and submits Purchase Requisitions through 49er Mart to order approved supplies. Complete reports as instructed by supervisor and administration.
- Coordinates with the night building services supervisor to ensure staff have adequate supplies on hand for their needs and is expected to make recommendations of product type and quantity of supplies to order.
- Attend weekly building meetings ensuring effective communication of changes and additions for events and building operations.
- Trains staff and assists in safely moving furniture and equipment to different areas as directed: including offices, lounges, service & common areas, and outside the facilities that are coordinated through Conferences, Reservations, & Events. Handle all equipment in such a manner as to avoid damage and maintain condition of inventory, walls and floors.
- Remain current with trends and advances in the field, and make recommendations for improvements in resources and systems.

| Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Building Services Supervisor should have a proven record of strong supervisory experience and skills demonstrating the ability to successfully lead a team. Three to five years of housekeeping supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience to train and perform detail janitorial duties, floor care duties and operate specialized floor machines. Five to six years of general housekeeping and floor care experience preferred.
- Must have ability to perform medium to heavy lifting. Previous room set up experience a plus.
- Computer literate and willingness to learn new programs required. Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office software preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
